I just got a leopard gecko from a friend of ours that couldn't take care of it properly. She hadn't had any heat sources for about 2 years... I know right... I've got all the problems taken care of and she is doing great! My question comes in on creating a 3d environment for her. I"m use to doing this for fish and aquatics, and I finish the process with coats of Drylok paint. It is a massionry water proofer and sealer that is non toxic to fish and stuff. I have her 3d enviornment built out of foam and has a the first layer of grout/concrete on it. I was wondering, will Drylok work for this as well? or do I have to have another sealer all together? If so please let me know.

Also attached is a picture of the background for her as it is drying now. It has 4 hides (some are completely removable and are drying on the table), 2 viewing areas in the hides so you can see in from the sides of the tank. each hid is removable or you can take the top off for easy access. They all snap in place with magnets. I don't have a huge tank for her and I know a 20 Long would be best, but I only have what I was given which i think is a 26gal bow front. So I tried to gain floor space by building upward.

Let me know what you think. and please let me know about the sealer.

General Leo Questions

So I have had Experience with some reptiles and some not a lot of leopard gecko experiences but i have cared for them in my Environmental ED. class....

So I have had Experience with some reptiles and some not a lot of leopard gecko experiences but i have cared for them in my Environmental ED. class. And i have had mine for about 4 months now and growing well and now they love to held.

When I first got them they were about 1 month old (max) from the petstore (parents got them for little bros b day) and i had them on a stable diet of small crix and mealies for about a month then it was all mealies ever since. And i also started my mealworm farm not long after we got our leo's xD. Since my baby mealies are not fully grown i ran out quick and had to run out and get small crix from the petstore. I put 20 inside their tank and they were all gone in minutes but they were still hungry xD.

My Misc questions

My leo's are about 6 1/4" long but their food doesn't last they both eat about 10* mealies each and both just inhaled 20 small crix the last time. When do you know when its time to upgrade them to bigger (large) crickets?

Is it normal for my leo's to eat between 10-17 mealies at one sit in?

Also I have heard that some leo's associate movement with food. They do not attack my fingers anymore but they attack each other's tail after they finish all of their food is this normal or should i add more food?

Both scratch at their aquarium when they want to be held and it looks like they want to climb out but from what i have noticed they just want to be up high if that makes any sense. So i was wondering if i should get or make them a hammock to chill in xD anybody have any experience with this?

Both are relatives to each other im pretty sure their siblings but its too early to sex them from what i see. But one of my leos has bright orange at the top of its tail is this a hint of the Carrot tail gene? here is a PIC.

I'd love to hear any input and meet some of you guys xD.

I have a UTH on for about 4 hours and the ceramic tile is up to 95 degrees in the center but as you get to the sides it drops to 90 and the tile beside is only 85. I am thinking I need to keep it on for a few more hours to really heat up but I would like some feed back to be sure I'm right about this.

I picked up last night a tank 48" long x 12" high x 12" deep. I started drawing out my layout, my plan is to build hides and a 3D background out of foam. But pretty quick I noticed this thing is going to be huge. I'm thinking that might be too much room for 1 Leo and not sure he or she would walk from one end to the other to poop in the litter box.

My plan is one large tank with a hot side and cold side.
HIDES
3 hot hides 6"x4"-6"x5"-8"x4" all 2.5"-3" tall
3 cool hides 6"x5"-7"x5"-8"x4" all 2.5"-3" tall
3 moist hides 6-8" round Making foam "Rocks" and putting cool whip containers inside as they are water tight

HEAT
Under tank heater. I might need 2 under tank heaters as the long so it won't end up being about 1/4th warm and 3/4th cold.

LIGHTING
I don't plan on doing any over head lighting. I have thought about adding some LED lighting but need to research more as I don't want to screw up the sleeping patterns.

SUBSTRAINT
12" tiles (well they are just short of 12" think but 4 fit well). I'm thinking it might be best to put sand under and between them to keep them level.

EXTRAS
Food bowl, water bowl, litter box --These I will buy and build foam around them so they all fit in the setup.

Even with plants, wood, bridges, and other stuff there will be lots of empty space.

My questions are
1-Could I pull off 3 in this tank? Assuming they don't fight and only 1 male. With 3 I would add extra water bowls

2- Are the hides big enough or do I need to go larger?

3-With some playing around with the layout I could get 4 of each hides in there but that is only if I needed extra hides.

4-I have thought about putting the moist hides on top of the hot tides as a second level. But with 2 UTH I would have room on the floor to do the moist hides there.

I hope to start building this weekend so I will take pics as I go for a DIY thread.

Much to my sadness, I find I have to slim down my collection both for time and monetary reasons. My loss is your gain. Shipping is available, but local pick up is preferred. I am in the Philadelphia area and can make trips to the Hamburg shows as needed. Shipping is extra and your responsibility. Cash or Paypal.
I am selling the following:
1 Male Mainland Chahoua - $375
1 Female Leachie - $550
1 Female Leo Gecko - $90

The male chewie is a mainland; he was obtained via a forum member on Pangea forums in 2011. I don’t know the hatch date. He was an adult when I got him. I would put him at around 3 years old. He needs more handling, he’s fine once he’s out of his tank but he’s not thrilled about being picked up. He loves his CGD and loves roaches.

The female Leachie came to me via Limey of Royal Reptilia. He couldn’t give me a hatch date or a locale. But she’s a nice looking girl and growing well. She loves her CGD. And doesn’t mind being handled but does have a habit of pooping on whoever is holding her. I got in her December of 2011, making her a little over a year.

The female Leo came to me from Ohio geckos, she has a hatch date of 11/09, and I obtained her in 2010. She’s a Sunglow; she is missing two toes on both her back feet. She was that way when I got her, her sheds have been fine, but I like to keep an eye on her while she’s doing it to make sure. She’s skittish about being picked up but she’s fine once she’s in your hands. She lives with another female gecko currently and they have been fine together.  if you get her there’s a 20 gallon long tank available for $25.
