Leopard Gecko tank help for winter

I live in Massachusetts which means the winters can get pretty cold. For the past several winters I have moved my gecko tank into my walk in closet and used a space heater by the tank to keep it the proper temperature. This worked successfully but it makes my electricity bill go up. I need ideas to help keep my gecko tank insulated to keep the warmth in during the winter.
My ideas:
  • I am thinking of insulating the top and sides of the cage with either cardboard or tinfoil allowing proper ventilation.
  • Make an insulated hideaway - wont harm him - diy

I live in MA also. In general, since the UTH is on all the time, I don't worry about the air temp in the tank as long as it's adequate for humans. I suspect that the air temp is in the high 60's to low 70's during the winter. Most of my geckos are a lot less active in the winter but I feel that the seasonal change is not a problem. If you really want to keep them warmer, in my opinion the best bet is either putting towels or other insulation around the outside of the tank and/or installing a ceramic heat emitter.

I'm from CT and I don't change anything between seasons as long as the UTH is the right temp, and the ambient temp is at least 65 which it normally is with the heat in my apartment on
