Just wondering, do I really need a bedding for mealworms? They get so dirty, I feel like I could keep them cleaner if I had no bedding to worry about. Not to mention, I hate grinding up all that oatmeal.... LOL Does anyone else keep theirs with out bedding?

The bedding is their food. If they have no food they will not be nutritious for your geckos. If you buy pre-powdered bedding (check out the gut load at pro geckos.com) it will be less work and easier to sift them.

I did try that once, but i wasnt as successful at keeping them alive that way :( mealworms like to burrow, and it keeps them from crawling through their own waste... You dont have to grind up the oats if you dont want to. I just dump the oats in, and they do fine :) ou could also try wheat bran, which is already ground up I believe :)

I grind them because with thousands of mealworms in the container, I can sift them out of the ground gut load instead of having to pick them out. Since I can go through 10,000 mealworms in a month at the height of baby season, there's no way I want to pick mealworms out.

I may try a group with no bedding and see how they do. Mine all die anyways because my "farm" is too big for my three guys to eat them in a timely manner before they die. I actually just sold off 1000 to a reptile shop for $8 lol I grind the oat meal because it's a heck of a lot easier to scoop and sift than it is to pick out 40 bajillion worms every feeding. Raven can out pack 100 worms a night if I let him!
