Help Taking Professional Type Photos Of LGs

I'm trying to figure out what sort of white or black background will help contain the gecko, but also look nice in the photos and show off their colors. I'm thinking black might be best since I have a lot of lighter colored geckos, but either would work. I need to work on building my Facebook page and eventually a website. Those of you that take your own professional type photos for your pages what do you use for your staging? Thanks! [emoji3]

I wouldn't say they match up to the standards of some I've seen but.... Here is the difference between black and white for a couple of our geckos.

Our Diablo Blanco girl.

I thought I'd try to pick two different looking gecko's so it shows how the background reacts with each one :)
I will be sticking to black for our geckos because I personally prefer how it looks. For the black background I don't generally use anything special really. We have a black carpet so that works, or a black pillowcase to stand them on. For the white I used an old poly box we had lying around.

I just use the shelf on my rack for my black background. Slide21.jpg

The mirror pics are still just in my rack, with a mirror on the floor.

I like black most of the time, but once in awhile I'll like white better. I bought material in both colors and can switch it up that way.

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your suggestions. [emoji3]

I will try the rack thing like you suggested, Dillon. I only have my hatchling rack that is black pvc. My adult rack is made from lumber, but it is worth a shot!

I will also hit up Jo-Ann's for some fabric. A few of my geckos are runners so I will find a way to line a few boxes. That way I can take pictures instead of running them down. LOL

That's a good idea geckolabs! However, ours has gaps in the shelves lol. But I think I could probably knock together something quick for photographing and paint and varnish it black to do something similar. Would be better than the whole pillowcase or carpet method as we have a couple of hyper geckos that like to run! XD

My shelves have gaps too :p Usually when I put them on the shelf, I leave my hand either hovering above them or next to them for a few minutes to help them feel secure so they don't dart everywhere. I've never had one dart off of the shelf thus far.

Our hyper geckos, one likes to bite and the other runs around the hand lol. I always wait for them to settle before taking photo's but these two just don't settle so photo's are always a pain. Especially the one we've nicknamed ADHD gecko because he literally runs everywhere, never stops moving at all.

Also, when I say gaps I mean this :p Our shelves are like this all along. Hopefully once we move and have more room our shelves will be all handbuilt to size as these ones currently don't fit two 32ltr in a row so we have to have 1x 32ltr and 1x 12-16ltr on a shelf which is annoying for me because I like organization.

Here's a shot I took with a d7100, a sigma 70mm macro, a cardboard box, a piece of bond paper, 1 flash and the popup flash on the cam itself.
