Breeding Question

Hey guys and gals,

Leo morph newbie here. Me and my fiancee have branched out into leos after years of mainly snakes and I think we've got a reasonable understanding of a lot of the morphs however I'm getting a bit confused about what we'd produce if we were to breed the following 2 morphs. The male is a "sunglow" raptor het blizzard and the female is a diablo blanco.

The male "Zeus":

Female "Persephone"

Also a cheeky additional question. I picked this girl up as a G Project X Blood. Just wondering people thoughts.

Thanks in advance,

Kiz :)

Looks like Diablo Blancos, Raptor het blizzard, Blizzard Sunglow Eclipse, Eclipse Sunglow het blizzard. There might be a couple I am missing. The second pic is a nice looking G. I like the orange coloring in the head.

For the breeding results, you need to break each morph down into its components and then calculate for each gene.

Sunglow RAPTOR het Blizzard
- Tremper Albino
- Eclipse
- het. Blizzard
- Super Hypo (line bred)
- Tangerine (line bred)
- Carrot Tail (line bred)
- Patternless Stripe? (line bred - difficult to tell unless you have baby pics, as it could have been patterned and faded out due to Super Hypo)

Diablo Blanco
- Tremper Albino
- Eclipse
- Blizzard
- Patternless Stripe? (line bred, difficult to tell on a Blizzard)

Anyway, you plug the genetic components into the Reptile Calculator to get predictions for the gene assortment. The line bred traits all are unpredictable, and the babies can be a mixture of the parent traits.
Leopard Gecko Genetics Calculator
Male Genes: Tremper Albino, het Blizzard, Eclipse
Female Genes: Tremper Albino, Blizzard, Eclipse

Genetically, you'll get:
- 100% Tremper Albino
- 100% Eclipse
- 50% Blizzard, 50% het. Blizzard

Of course, the line bred traits will be thrown in there too (Patternless Stripe, Super Hypo, Tangerine, Carrot Tail), but since both parents don't show those traits (presumably), they will most likely get diluted a bit.

One minor point. To the best of my knowledge, "sunglow" refers to a super hypo albino and "raptor" to a patternless stripe albino, so it's either/or,not both. Many people ignore the fact that the "P" in "Raptor" stands for patternless stripes and talk about "banded raptors" (which seems to me to be a contradiction in terms). It's just good to know whether your gecko has a stripe trait or not.

Ok so am I right in thinking that if he is a true raptor and carries the patternless stripe I will get RAPTORs het blizzard and diablo blancos and if he has super hypo I will get tremper blizzard eclipse hypo and tremper eclipse hypo het blizzard (whatever they are!)?

Sorry if I'm completely wrong. :p I'm getting there slowly.

Stripes are a line bred trait that has the tendency to act recessive. Depending what sort of stripe genetics each parent carries, you could get jungle, stripe, reverse stripe, or patternless stripe (which is stripe + reverse stripe). Unless there are stripe genes on both sides, you are not likely to get any true RAPTORs (patternless stripe).

Super Hypo is also line bred, so you could get reduced spotting or hypo in the offspring. The appearance can vary depending how it mixes with the female's patterning.
