Hypo- What makes one?!

Yep, another morph question from me here... Mainly due to responses on a facebook group...

Right. We hatched what looked like a Normal last year. Only, he grew up looking anything but normal!
I have always been told/researched and found that Hypo is a dominant gene and that a Leo is only Hypo if it has 10 or less spots on the body- Not including the tail and head.
How true is this? Because I posted about our "Normal" in a Leo group on facebook and the response was that he was Hypo Tangerine! But he has more than 10 spots on his body, and so does his mum(who I was also told was Hypo!)...

So if I give you lot the photo's, can someone please clear this up for me because I thought I'd got things figured out but now I'm all muddled up again and confused.

Mum-
Name: Zara.
Morph: Blood x G-Project het Tremper.
Parentage: Blood het Tremper, Eclipse x G-Project het Tremper.
Photo's: I tried to get every angle whether it helps or not lol. She laid two eggs yesterday, just to explain if anyone thinks she looks a little on the small side.

Son-
Name: Pluto.
Morph: Normal? Hypo Tangerine? He's het Tremper and Eclipse either way.
Parentage: Blood x G-Project het Tremper x RAPTOr poss het Blizzard.
Photo's: Once again, as many angles as possible.

We have some hatchlings from the same pairing that produced Pluto(above) this year as well, and someone said one of them is Hypo Tangerine too. So if anyone wants to see them I can post those photo's as well.

*Please excuse any cat hairs, I apologise sincerely for them. I have white bed sheets and a black & white cat. These photo's were taken quickly especially for this thread so I didn't bother setting up a full shoot and just chose to use my bed quilt.*

I never liked the "10 spots or less" thing. I think it's fair to call any gecko with obviously reduced spotting a hypo. I would say the first is a hypo tang het tremper, poss het eclipse (can also see the G project in him) and the second is a hypo het tremper, eclipse, and poss het blizzard (probable because of the speckling).

Hypo is a polygenic trait, so it not dominant or recessive and is mostly due to line breeding.

The hatchling looks normal, but only time will tell.

The first one is female and is a breeder, the female that produced the other one in this post.

Hope that clears some things up.

Basically the first one is mum. She is Blood x G-Project het Tremper(not proven to be het Eclipse in two breeding seasons so far).

The second one is her offspring when paired with a RAPTOr poss het Blizzard(not proven yet despite pairing to a DB).
The hatchling photo IS that offspring when he hatched and the other photo's are him tonight.

Ah, my bad. I got a little mixed up, haha. I should have read more carefully

In that case, mum I would say is a hypo tangerine (G-project x blood) het tremper, poss het eclipse. The offspring one is hypo/hypo tang (depending on your preference) and would be het tremper, het eclipse, and poss het blizzard. My bad about the hatchling. I actually have a hatchling that started out really dark like that and then lightened up a lot and will likely be hypo.

They both have obviously reduced spotting, so I would definitely call them hypo, regardless of the exact number of spots.

It's 5am here, I probably could have worded it better if I'd had sleep so don't blame you at all lol.

Thank you.

From what I know, Pluto was the only Hypo produced last year. We got a Tremper Albino and two APTOr's as well. Which proved Zara was het Tremper but she's yet to prove het Eclipse. And Zeus(RAPTOr 50% poss het Blizzard) has been paired to a DB and an Ember 50% poss het Eclipse this year. So far neither Zeus nor Seraphine(Ember) have proven to be het Blizzard but there's more eggs to hatch yet.

Luna: Tremper Albino hatched 5th November 2014.

Splodge: APTOr het Eclipse hatched 11th October 2014.

Smudge: APTOr het Eclipse hatched 12th October 2014.

These are the hatchlings from this year so far. Six more eggs in the incubator from this girl so we'll see what else pops out lol.

Tangerine Reverse Stripe/Jungle het Tremper, Eclipse- Hatched 3rd August 2015.

Excuse the hair, that would be my OH's 0_0 Completely didn't notice that until now as these were once again just quick photo's taken last night.

Beautiful babies. =) I'm loving the bright tang you've got going!

The speckling on that second one you posted could be a sign of het blizzard (I was thinking about it while I was looking at the picture, so I went back and reread and saw that it was a possibility, which is why I mentioned it), but it is no guarantee of course. If none of the babies come out blizzard, than I would be inclined to think that it isn't.

I really do like the intensity of the tangs Zara produces. Such bright colours! I hope they keep at least some of that colour as they grow, which is looking likely as so far they've only got brighter!

None of these babies will be visual Blizzard but it would be nice to know whether I can call them 50% poss het or not, which means Zeus needs to produce a Diablo Blanco baby with one of our other two Tremper based girls.

I have heard of het Blizzard having speckling, would that affect a RAPTOr too? I know it's not proven guaranteed het Blizzard or anything but I have heard it can be a "marker" of sorts... But our RAPTOr doesn't have any of this "hyper-spotting" that his offspring have...

Speckling like that is linked to being het blizzard, but beyond that not much is known about it. =/ I don't see why it wouldn't affect a RAPTOr. I've seen het blizzards that don't have the speckling, so who really knows what causes it to show up in some and not others.

Does more than one of his offspring have it? I think it's an indicator of a probable het blizzard. I would find it strange if he didn't prove out as one. It's quite a distinct look, which explains me looking at the picture before reading and text and thinking, "that looks het blizzard". But, genetics are a funny thing sometimes. =)

So far only Pluto(Hypo male from 2014) has shown significant speckling. The babies that are still growing seem to have some but so far it looks like just normal spotting coming in on young animals.
