Welcome to GF!
Misting frequently is not the best idea for leopard geckos since they come from a dry climate. I"m not convinced that it is a no-no though.
Most people use a "humid hide" which can contain moss (or paper towel, or coco fiber). It's purpose is to provide a humid "micro-climate) that the gecko can choose when necessary. It may be a better alternative to frequent misting.
I personally only used a humid hide when my geckos were going into shed. I just used wet paper towel for the hide. (or Coco Fiber when my females were laying). I see no problem keeping a humid hide in the tank at all times as long as their are separate warm and cool hides
