Weird or just lazy?

I have had my leopard gecko for about 2 1/2 weeks if I remember correctly. He/she is a juvi and was very active and is still for short bursts. Now he/she just lays in the same corner(the corner has a climbing long that is like a weird hide and makes him feel secure) when it sleeps and he/she has for the past few days been staying there and not really coming out. Normally when I feed it, I turn off its lights and turn on its night lamp which produces a very suddle dark purple light. I then give him about 30 minutes to wake up. More time is given if he doesn't come out. Most of the time(even when he was active) he wouldn't come out, but if I turned on my overhead light in my room and took off the lid to his cage, he would come out and look for his dinner. Now he just sits there and doesn't come out no matter what. He only comes out if when the food is running around. He eats it and goes back. May just be me, but I also seem to think he is also less interested in the amount of food he is eating too. Someone posted something about how their Leo acted different after around 8 days, but was told that was normal. Is that the case here?

Sounds like normal behavior. They don't act exactly the same way all the time, and as they go through adjustments, their behavior will change.


Here are a few things to check if you are concerned:
- Is the enclosure heated enough? If there's only one warm spot and the room is cold, your gecko will stay in the warm spot.
- Are there enough secure hiding spots? Again, if there's only one "safe" spot, your gecko will stay there.
- Is your gecko getting ready to shed? Typically, they do this every 2-4 weeks, and signs of an upcoming shed can include hiding and not eating/pooping as usual.

He shed over like a week or a week and a half ago. He has one of those rounded cave logs and a climbing log that sits in the corner. He loves to hid behind the log. I think it feels like another hide to him. It's in my profile pic. He may also lay there because of the heat pad. The night lamp is on the side of the tank with the pad so he doesn't have another side at night that is heated. He almost never goes to his other hide, day or night. Thank you.

Usually, you would place an enclosed cave with a smaller opening over the heating pad so they have a secure place to stay warm. Not sure if you've done that or if you only have the log on the side with the heat mat.

Enclosed caves will make your gecko feel a lot safer and at ease when compared to open-ended structures like log huts.
