Moist hide question

I use hides in my rack drawers with vermiculite in them. How much water do you guys mix in and how often?

I mix Eco earth(coco fiber) with the vermiculite so it doesn't dry out so quick. I like to keep the substrate moist enough that when you squeeze it no water comes out, but when you open your hand the substrate stays in a ball. Sorta like a snowball.
