Tank Heating

Hello fellow Gecko Gecks, I have been having a problem with keeping my geckos tank warm. I have a heating pad under a hide in his enclosure that gets pretty warm(surface temp taking with temp gun is 90>) but the air temperature in the tank has slowly been dropping, and is currently in the mid 60's!! He sleeps all day and hides all night in the hot hide, but besides that he is good and healthy and gecking bigger everyday! I have read a lot of conflicting info on how to heat the tank without causing harm to the gecko. Im seeking advice on how to fix this temperature problem.

Thanks!

I am interested in what other more experienced keepers will say so I plan to follow this thread. Like you, surface temps are great, ambient...not so much. Living in an old farm house does not help matters.
