Feeding in separate area?

Hello all,

I'll be purchasing a new little one next month at the Sac Reptile Show, and am working on making everything just right for his/her arrival.

My question is, does anyone feed their leo in a separate container from their actual enclosure? My thinking behind this is it would be easier for the gecko to catch its prey, not to mention uneaten insects won't make themselves at home in the gecko's habitat (pooping and dying and such).

I have my 15g terrarium sitting on top of a wooden stand with shelf space. I'm wondering if I can move my leo to a small tub I keep inside the stand and drop in some feeders when its time to eat, and then move it back up top when it gets full.

Thank you for the input!

You could, but then it may stress the gecko everytime it goes to eat. But you may get a chill gecko, it depends on it's personality. Do not try it until it has thoroughly settled in to it's new home though! It's only the crickets that would get around the tank anyway, you could just put a couple in at a time until they get eaten.

When I tried to do this with my geckos, they got super stressed and wouldn't eat for the rest of the day. I just start keeping things like crickets in the tank. The crickets will come out and be vulnerable sooner or later and the geckos will eat them. As for dying, just take care of them whenever you go to clean the tank weekly.

I used to do this, but I instead started tong feeding in his own tank. Putting him into the feeding container seemed to stress him out and he wouldn't eat as well. I don't like letting insects run loose in the tank for many reasons (hiding and then jumping out at me when I'm trying to clean, biting/harassing my poor gecko, eating gecko poop...).
