Humid hide problems

Hello to all. New member here ( glad that over now). So I have two loes that I rescued from the local +++++. I am unsure how old they are( maybe around 5 yrs old according to my vet). I have one male ( Clyde) and one female( Bonnie). Found this forum and went to a non chain pet store for advice. I have a humid spot I set up for the geckos. It is a plastic enclosure and I put sphagnum moss dampened inside for them. Well my male decided to swallow a piece of the moss. That was about 12 days ago. I didnt realize he had eaten it. He threw up a chunk about 3 days ago. I finally got him into the vet and he still has a small chunk in his intestines but the vet says he should pass it. He has a secondary lung infection and so on. Am so worried about my boy. Now that I have ranted away to everyone what material should I use in the humid hide that I dint have to worry about him eating it? Thank you for any advice

Im so sorry about your little guy! I hope he makes a quick recovery!

A lot of people use dampened paper towels in their humid hides. They are cheap, easy to change, and your Leo isn't likely to eat them. That is why they are the only thing recommended to be used with hatchlings.

I use coco fiber in my humid hides

I will have to check on the coco fiber thanks for the info. I am so worried now that the little bugger will swallow something he shouldnt

I also use paper towels (moist) in my open humid hides. And I use eco earth in my tupperware humid hides. The reason for the difference is that a cricket might crawl into the open humid hide, but they can't get into the tupperware. So there is no chance of accidentally ingesting the eco earth, while grabbing a cricket.
