UTH attached to the side of the tank?

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing my setup in time for bringing a gecko home tomorrow. The UTH I have is by Zoo Med, and lists in the instructions that attaching the pad to the side of the tank is a viable option. Since my tank sits on top of my dresser, I'd rather use this method than risk burning the furniture. Will a side heat pad provide enough heat for my gecko? The room temperature is normally 75 degrees.

Sorry to say but that won't work if it's a leopard gecko. They have to have the heat on their bellies to help with digestion. So putting it on the side would not work. Also, a good idea to have a thermostat to keep the uth at the proper temp and not getting too hot to burn the gecko.

Leopard geckos need UTH for belly heat and it won't burn your dresser since you can attach to the bottom of the tank then place reptile carpet inside the tank overtop the UTH so bare glass don't rest.against the geckos stomach.

Most of those zoo med pads come with rubber feet that you attach to the bottom of the tank to lift it a bit.

Thanks for the feedback, I didn't know leopard geckos needed belly heat for digestion. I'll see about getting a thermostat, too, and keeping the tank elevated.
