I use a thin layer of paper towel - cheap and easy to change.

Sounds like fungus gnats, I get them in my frogs vivs from time to time, but they haven't appeared in my leo hides.

why do some people use different stuff in their humid hide for different sex?

In my current setup I dont use one. The leos can dig down in the substrate to reach areas of higher moisture as needed. I used to use cypress mulch in the humidity hides when i did use them though.

i use the moss here. Btw what do you guys use for a moist hide? i know many people, including me just use old tupperware and stuff but it seems like such an eyesore and it throws off the whole look of the terrarium. Anyone got a cheaper alternative? Or am i doomed to always use a land-o-lakes container....

Plastic kleenex box covers are inexpensive and have a lot of different designs on them. I found some that have bamboo designs on them, and they already have a opening made in the top.;)

Papertowel, is so easy. Just spray it down and throw away when done.
I did use moss before but it was so messy and abit smelly.
