I have had my leopard gecko in this setup for a couple months, and I decided to show some pictures.
First, I will give some info on the setup. It is a 40 gallon tank, about 34 inches long. The substrate consists of 40 lbs of top soil and 50 lbs of play sand. I wet the substrate under the cool cave to provide a moist area. She seems to enjoy digging quite a bit!
The cool side is 80 degrees. The warm side averages 94 while the temp inside the warm cave is 91. At the top of the warm cave (under the heat lamp) is a basking spot of 100, and she does use this site. These temperatures were measured with an infrared temp gun.

Here are some pictures.

i cant stress enough, BE CAREFUL WITH SAND. I know in the wild, they encounter small amounts of it, bu for the most part they live on rocky areas with compacted dirt. I have always used slate with great results and zero impaction risk. Other than that, looks great.

I agree that it might need some more plants. There is already one in the tank, and I would like to add more. I just can't find any that I like.
