I'm thinking about getting ssand for my leo and they get heat more.

When i get sand and I will put paper towel botto first then add sand and add slate gravels "flat rocky" on all of it. So I think it could be more natural looking for in living room. My mother want it pretty and natural, not some ugly reptile carpet. LOL. Also I'll be adding mini snake plant. My tank is 10 gallon.

But So anyone can help me pick sand that you are using?

i would never use sand for a gecko

Hmmm but what about slate rock? I used to have white cermic alike tile, I put it on warm side, it became too hot and I had to stack it about 5 blocks of cermic tile. :( It's getting too much pressure on my tank's wire of heat pad.

i just use paper towels, and when i did use UTH i always had them hooked up to a thermostat. if the warm side of your tank is around 90-92 degrees, that's not too hot. just make sure there is plenty of space for a cool side and you should be just fine. are you using under tank heating or overhead heat lamps? a normal UTH shouldn't get a piece of slate or ceramic tile too hot.

If you were completly wanted to use sand and nothing can change your mind, I think Exo-Terra's riverbed sand is the safest.

There's some very attractive tiles at Home Depot or Lowe's. You can still add a plant and make it look very nice. Sand poses potential issues. If it's getting too hot on the warm side, it needs to be regulated either by thermostat or a smaller heat pad. Also, as mentioned above, lights will raise the temps and aren't needed for Jackie's health. Did I mention that sand poses potential issues?

I would like to say my enclosure is attractive with the repti-carpet. Choose nice looking hides and greenry. Also would like to say I love your avatar fl_orchidslave

Depending what kind of theme your going with tile/slate looks nice.I would not use sand. But what you could do is find the safest sand and do a 1 inch layer of it, then lay slate over that. It will lower the heat, look more naturalistic and lower the risk of impaction. I think someone posted a natural tank in the Natural History/Habitat section. Plz correct me if im worng on any thing.

The setup looks good Grimmy :) One thing that could be added to brighten up the color without adding stuff inside the tank is one of those background things that sticks to the outside. Is Jackie's humid hide in the corner under the decor?

I have sand underneath my slate tiles... I have the UTH on a dimmer switch so in the hotter months I can turn it down since it gets too warm... seems to work pretty well...

Exactly! that' what i'm talking about! :O Sand under then stales or tile cover it. My living room is more cool because of AC. so how did you connect dimmer switch to UTH? I would like to get one and how to make it one? :O
