I recently purchased and animal plastics economy rack after doing some research hear. But I have two questions. One the 32 quart tubs fit so percise to the rack I'm wondering if it is necacary to drill holes in the tubs. Second in the instructions it says to tape your temperature probe directly to the heat tape using the aluminum tape provided, but in the directions that came with my herpastat its clearly stated not to do this. Can someone please help?

You don't need air holes. The people at AP will even tell you this and yes follow the instructions and place the temp probe in the provided slot. I had doubts too on where to put my thermostat probe, and when placing it directly on the heat cable I had to raise the thermostat to like 98* just to get my tubs to 90* lol. If you place the probe in the provided slot you'll get much better, balanced, accurate readings.

I use animal plastic racks too, I have my thermostat set at 91* and my tubs floor temps are around 92-94*

Or you're using heat tape? Mine are the older ones with heat cable. I think mine are the AP 2221 models.

I'm sure it's the same scenario though. You have to think about it this way if your probe is directly on the heat source your thermostat will think that is the floor temp of your tubs. So if you have your thermostat at 91* lets just say, and your probe is taped to your flex watt or heat tape, that means that your thermostat will only allow that to get to 91* or in that ball park range. Now that heat still has to travel through the plastic of your tub to the floor temp which will block out some of that heat. So then your floor temps in the actual tub will be only like 80* (example) This is exactly what happened to me. When I moved the probe back into that slot, the temps of the thermostat where much more accurate to what I wanted my floor temp to be. I think it has something to do with a small gap like 1/4 of a inch where that probe sits to the heat source to simulate an atcually tub being there so it compestates for that in between spot. I hope this makes sense. lol

Some people on the BP forums I heard even tape the probe on the floor of a empty tub in the rack directly over where the heat source would be and it sounded like that worked for a few people too. IMO, that makes sense as well.
