My juvenile, Hawkeye, has moved up to his big-boy digs in the Boaphile. It's difficult to see, but there's an Exo-Terra cave in the far back corner. You can just about spot a gecko nose back there in this picture.

The staircase creates a little awning over the cave entrance, as seen in this shot.

He's moved in next to Amoré.

Here's the entire cage. I'm using the end compartment as a bug and plant storage area. :)

Also, just noticed there's a skink face in the top corner, lol. Sorry, Lilo, not your photo shoot.

I really liked the way the caging worked out, so I've continued to expand the stack. No geckos for the bottom row yet, but I prepared the trilogy cage by drilling ventilation holes in the back wall of each compartment (20 - 1/2" holes per compartment). Cages are now directly stacked together with no spacers underneath, as I have a pedestal instead of a wooden desk.

Closeup of the two leopard gecko cages the are occupied.

Hawkeye, still in a standard setup, slightly altered from his original. He lost his plant for the time being because he was pooping on it and killing the leaves! I'm letting it recover in the middle compartment. Next time, I won't place it in a convenient corner...

And Amoré, who is trying out my first bioactive desert setup.

I acquired two female leopard geckos last year, and they are out of quarantine and moved into the bottom row. Enjoy, ladies!

The top left and lower middle are being used to store various extra hides, plants, and feeders... :)

Providing an update and details on the standard setup I've settling into for the leopard geckos. I ran bioactive setups for my two males for a couple years, but I ended up getting too many custodians escaping from the gap around the doors. :\ So, it's back to regular, paper-lined setups for everyone.

Just to recap, these are Boaphile Plastics 421Trilogy cages (4' wide x 11.5" tall x 2' deep divided into 3 compartments) with their 2X under-cage heat installed along the back floor. Each compartment is about 15" wide x 11" tall x 23" deep. The upper back wall of each compartment has 20 - 1/2" holes drilled through to add ventilation.

Using lights, I had to change the location of the thermostat temperature probe. Normally, I would put it direct center, but being too close to the light fixture on the row beneath puts the temps all out of whack. I mount the probe over the right side of the middle compartment below, so it is not above the light fixture at all.

This is a typical setup with pretty much my favorite selection of hides for leopard geckos.

  • Fluker's Castle Crib Large (right front)
  • Repti Ledge Stand with melamine ramekins (right wall)
  • Vivarium Electronics TH-100 temp/RH probe monitor (right wall)
  • Penn Plax Shale Step Ledge Small (right middle)
  • Exo Terra Reptile Cave Medium (right back)
  • Bathroom tile (left back)
  • Zoo Med Repti Shelter Medium, filled with Eco Earth (left middle)
  • Penn Plax Shale Step Ledge & Cave Medium (left front)
  • Pet Tech Granite Grey Hideaway Small (left front wall)
  • Exo Terra Nano Compact Top with UVB100 13-watt bulb (left back ceiling)

Close up of back. I do my best to train them to use the tiled corner for defecating to extend the time between full cage cleanings.

Center of floor area. I use the dish stand to hold calcium complex powder and water. The Castle Crib up front has the well partially filled with large aquarium gravel to provide a level area that perfectly fits a Lee's Mealworm Dish.

Here's the magnetic, wall-mounted cave. The larger step ledge leads right up to it, so they can climb inside. I even have a male that loves to climb that will hoist himself up to the very top to survey his domain.
