Hello :D
I recently purchased a 6 month old leopard gecko (2 days ago). He is comfortable being held and seems to be okay in his vivarium, the only problem is that he isnt really eating all to much, the pet shop said that he would probably eat about 5 crickets and some mealworms. When I fed him today he could only eat 3 crickets and I don't think he has even touched the meal worms (apart from knocking over the bowl multiple times).
this is my 1st time every owning a leopard gecko (or a reptile) so I was wondering if that is just normal and should just give him some time to feel more comfortable in his new home

Thanks

Yes, definately give him some time. New geckos need time to adjust to their new enviorments without being handled. Sometimes it can take more than two weeks for a gecko to fully adjust to their new enviroment and begin eating regularly. Just give him some time with as little handling and disturbance as possible, and he should adjust just fine :)

Thanks for the reply :D I will definitely cut back on disturbing him and just let him do his own thing for a while. I'm actually surprised about his progress at the moment i've been looking about online for a while now and people are saying that they are taking days for them to eat anything at all or pick him up, the only reason I picked him up was because he walked straight on to my hand when I put it in there :)

Well it sounds like he will be a great little pet after he is adjusted and such :) Just give him a bit of time, and he should come around just fine :) I was actually surprised that you said he had eaten three crickets already! But do let us know when he starts eating good!

Yeah he ate 3 crickets today and 2 yesterday :) I will keep everyone informed when he settles in. I was just making this thread to get some reassurance about whether it was normal or not. Thanks for the advice :D

You have an amazing gecko that he ate straight off, and climbed in your hand straight off. Luck you!!! Mine is pretty docile she has come out of hide loads and I've read about ones that won't do that. When she hears us she comes out to see us even. She has not climbed into my hand unless I took her wet hide top off and move to my bed and basically my hand is the only way out but I think thats better then picking her up.
