Hi,

I literally just got my leopard gecko today, shes a blizzard eclipes (So pretty) called Miko. Anyway the reptile centre I got her off said they feed her locusts, so naturally I got her some locusts, now I tried to feed her and as I expected she wouldn't eat, but then all of a sudden the locust was full on attacking her and she was flinching but not doing anything, then she moved but it just followed her :O I've removed him from the vivarium, but wow seriously it was vicious. Does anyone know why? I put some carrots in there so they shouldn't be starving? I don't know what to do, it's scared me, I don't think I can be brave enough to try it again.

Wow, that was a vicious locust! I do not deal with locust, but have crickets. Maybe it was hungry. Did you gut load it well before feeding to your Miko? Try dusting that sucker heavy with vitamins or calcium before trying again. It will be slowed down by the dusting, and maybe give your little one a chance.

I'd also wait a few days before trying again, in hopes that your gecko is a bit adjusted AND hungry to teach that mean locust a lesson!

That being said, if you don't like locusts, you don't have to bother with them (though I know, I wouldn't want to waste them either!). I'm a big fan of worms here...mealworms and phoenix worms all the way! Slow and easy to feed with tongs or in a escape-proof feeder! Superworms are even stretching it for me...little bitey jerks.

I hope you find something that works for you!

Thanks guys. I tried some more today and the smaller locust got gobbled up when its back was turned yay, but when I tried another one it jumped on her tail and was biting her. I had to quickly get it off even though I was scared she would drop her tail.

Im so sceptical they are being gutloaded well and have a big space. I've just ordered some crickets and mealworms for her to try, hopefully shes not a fussy eater.

I'm just a bit worried as shes a bit on the skinny side when I got her from the centre and was horrified to hear they've been leaving the locusts in there overnight.
