Picky Eaters

Hey guys, I was wondering is anyone has had success switching feeders with picky eaters? One of my newer additions will only eat roaches, and I don't have my roach colony established yet. Constantly buying them sounds expensive. Any ideas?

I've been fairly fortunate with my reptiles not being too picky, but if I were you, I'd try rainbowmealworms.com as a roach source. It looks like its $14 for 50 roaches, but you could also get a few other insects in your order to distribute among your other geckos? They have good prices on superworms, mealworms, and other insects.

I've heard you can change the scent/flavor of some insects by gut loading them with different foods to make them more desirable, as one idea. Say, supers gutloaded on apples as opposed to oats might theoretically taste different, as an idea.

Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you!

Any feeder that moves a lot is fair game even to a picky eater. As for really picky eaters, trying oozing out some body juices from mealies/supers and touch them to the leos mouth so they could lick it and thus familiarize more with the worms' taste

I wish I had advice for you, but I'm still having a battle of wills with my adult male who doesn't really like mealworms. >_< I assume he'll eventually get hungry enough to just eat the darn things, but he doesn't have the prey drive at the moment.

Well that's too bad. =P Looks like I'm just going to have to make it more of a priority to get my colony established, and deal with buying roaches until then.

None of mine are picky but I make sure to keep them that way! I only feed adults once a week - males often every other week. If I feed them more often they tend to turn their noses up and less choice bugs not to mention get super fat! If your geckos are healthy (or fat) and picky I'd just offer them 5 mealworms once a week and take them out if they don't eat in 24 hours. Repeat for 4-6 weeks and I'd bet they start to eat at some point.
