Alright i purchased a leopard gecko from a friend who i worked with.

I noticed that this female gecko rarely eats !
I have added the liquid calcium and electrolytes into the water , as well as i dust them in a multi vitamin .

I have tried super worms, silk worms, butter worms, king worms ...
Majority of the time the end up dying in her dish!

She is now going on day 3 of not eating .
She maybe eats 1 out of the 5 i put in there and then stops eating .

She is approximately 2 years of age according to the person i bought her from
And she even stated she had done this when she had her.
But id love some advice to get her to eat proper

I only feed worms nothing else.

Three days isn't much, considering you just got her. My female didn't eat for 2 months when I first got her lol

As long as her tail isn't getting any smaller, she'll come around to eating. Just make sure she's hydrated and keep an eye on her :)

It could be medical, but if she's not losing weight in her tail, she should be fine.

You could buy some electrolyte enhancement at the pet store and add it to her water, it increases appetite.
What i did was crush up worms and crickets, add a bit of water and calcium, and used an eyedropper to slowly let my gecko lick off the watery gross bug paste, but that made her hungry and she started eating

I Dont feed crickets cause they gross me out and always escape and run loose in my house !!!

I have the liquid calcium and electrolytes in the water

I have a lot of geckos and someone(s) always not eating. Usually I just let it go, but this season I have several females that are losing weight. I am hand feeding some, meaning that i hold the gecko and gently push a feeder at the mouth. Often the gecko bites the feeder and ends up eating it. It's a pain in the neck, but it is working with some of the stubborn ones.

Alright so ive read numerous posts!

I just wanna make sure that im doing this set up right

I have one night time red bulb on one side
As well as a container container with lid filled with wet moss and a hide

On the other side i have a day time bulb
With a hide that has a top to provide basking

In the middle i have her water which is in a water dish that holds 22 fl.oz of water
I added the liquid calcium and electrolytes

On her day time side i have some fake plants and put her food dish there in hopes that if she felt more private she would eat.

And on the floor i have paper towel as a substrate

Ive read so many things and now I'm rather concerned I'm not providing the proper care

What exactly should i be putting in the dish for food ?

Should i be letting her hunt her food instead of placing them
In the dish?

What should i be using for substrate?

Should i be using moss as i have seen numerous people talk about coconut fiber ?

Sometimes to much knowledge in one sitting is unwise. [emoji17]

Hi

Just being honest get rid of the lights you don't need them Leopard Geckos are nocturnal they do not bask therefore the lights serve no purpose, In some morphs of Leopard Gecko the harsh lights can hurt their eyes, get yourself an under tank heater or heat mat, Leopard geckos need the heat on their belly to digest food, if they cant digest the food they may not eat at all. I have a couple of cabinet lights that push on and off for evening viewing and I put them on top of the tank just to give a little viewing light, they are not harsh light so do not upset my Gecko.

I would remove all lose substrate from the tank, I use an off cut of Lino to floor the tank.

As far as feeding goes my Leo gets about 8-9 medium sized meal worms every one to two days dusted every third day with Calcium with D3 and dusted daily with a small amount of reptile multi vitamins, I do have a small dish of calcium without D3 in the tank too which she licks at every so often, I add nothing additional to her water.

I do sometime buy her some crickets so she can hunt but she isn't too bothered.

I have Sphagnum moss in her humid hide, no coconut fibres.

Her temperatures ranges from 90,91,92 in her hot side to 84, 85, 86 in her cool side, her humid hide sits in the middle of the tank so is warm but not hot, and I use two probe thermometers to measure the temps

Her water is changed daily.

She is very healthy very bright and has a good sized tail she sheds every 3 weeks or so and lays dud eggs every 4 weeks ish, she eats her food when she pleases normally at night when it is dark and everyone has gone to bed.

Please try to rid yourself of the lights and get a heat mat, I bet you anything that is what is causing the issue.

Hope this helps

Hi

I have the desert one, it came with a set up that I brought, because I haven't had the rainforest one I am not entirely sure what the difference is as never needed to look but it makes sense considering Leopard Geckos come from desert like regions that the desert one is best. Make sure that it is in one corner of the tank and depending on the size of your tank you need it to cover 3/4 ish of the tank.
Also wouldn't be a bad idea to get a Micro climate Ministat so you can regulate the temperatures these cost around £30.00 here in the UK and also get yourself a temperature probe or digital thermometer you can get one for a couple of quid here not massively expensive but don't get a really cheap one as you may not be able to trust its readings. This is best so you can get the correct readings of the floor temperature.

It is possible that she is ovulating, when mine does she tends to go off her food for about a week or so then as soon as she has laid she is back to feeding like a trooper again.
It will be two spots that look like pink one is normally higher up the abdomen than the other by a few mm.

Keep us posted on how she is doing

Charlotte :)

Ok soooooo

She has basically been in her hide out that has the moss in it for two days straight !

I have seen her out for possibly 10 mins in two days , still not eating and i looked in there and there are no infertile eggs in there

I did however see a tiny piece of shed !!

Is the humidity too low in the tank ?
Cause I'm confused aren't they dessert animals lol desserts are hot not humid lol

Theyre not desert animals, thats a common misconception that petstores let you believe. They do live in hot areas of the world such as pakistan and iran, but they live in rocky/planted plains rather than sand. They usually search for somewhere moist to shed their skin so it doesn't flake off from dryness, but rather is stretchy and they can pull it off without any getting stuck.

Having humidity up all the time is bad because it can cause respiratory infections and problems in their breathing, just having a moist hide for somewhere to shed is great

You setup looks good i mean is she pooping? Even a bit? If she's urinating (white stuff) then just leave her be for a bit and monitor her tail size. There are a lot of reason she could be not eating and your setup isn't one of them, it might be parasites but i doubt it if she's not losing weight in her tail.

Do you hand feed or just leave worms in the bowl? Try different feeding methods if you're stuck
