We're pretty excited to be getting our first Dubias next week to start a colony. Well, I am at least..Not too sure about Amy yet! :)

All my geckos prefer the dubia over some of the others roaches that I have tried. They like them so much now, they refuse to eat crickets.
I even feed the baby nymphs to my baby geckos no problem.

Maybe in PA! If you are in a warmer state like Florida, they will not only survive, but they will thrive!

Well I found this about the B. latteralis or Turkistan Roach as it was called on the webpage I had found. This is a quote form nyworms.com It talks about them being non climbers or flyers. I was thinking about starting a colony of these for my leos but if Dubias are better maybe I had better look into them.
"Native to Asia and Africa. Non Climbing, Non Flying Species. Easy keepers and fast breeders.

Turkistan Roaches are commonly found in tropical areas, even some sections of the United States. Small and fast, they can move extremely quickly. They are smaller than Lobster Roaches, reaching about three quarters of an inch at maturity. Turkistan Roaches usually reach adulthood in 3 to 5 months and live for another 6 to 12 months after that.

Adult Blatta lateralis are easy to sex as only the adult males have wings. Non climbing and non flying, they make a great alternative choice for those who don't want to keep Lobster Roaches due to their climbing ability. Blatta lateralis are egg layers but breed as quickly, or even more so, than Lobster Roaches."

I keep these, feed these and LOVE IT!

no, they don't climb smooth surfaces, they don't have as much smell as crix and don't jump.

nymphs and small juvi roaches are GREAT for baby geckos, I find that they have a better prey drive because they have to stalk and catch their food, the babies also learn that the roaches mostly run straight lines along the edges of the tubs, so most will figure out how to sit and wait for the roach to come around.

To make feeding easy for adult geckos, I use the gladware/ziplock sandwich size tubs , with the lid off, OR with a large hole cut in the lid if I'm feeding larger roaches that will stand on top of the others to climb out! this also works well for feeding those pesky supers that seem to escape everything!

I use water crystals and organic dogfood, and NOW I use repashy calcium plus and am VERY pleased with it! I dust the feeders AND keep a small dish in my gecko tubs.

Hope that helps.

Do all you guys raise your own?
The reason I ask is, they are very expensive.

I am officially out of room to start a colony! :main_no:

Very expensive to just buy as a feeder. Not expensive at all once they start breeding for you! I just got my colony about a month ago and I have new babies all the time!

So where would be a good place to get ahold of some Dubias? nyworms.com has these guys. They want
25 32.00
50 45.00
100 75.00
These prices include shipping. Is that an ok price or is there a place that I can get them for a better price?
Thanks
