I seen at 7-11, ya the store they have blood worms and red trout worms, is it ok if I feed my gecko these? Can I use as a stable diet as well? I always feed worms and nothing else but I read wax worms is not a good stable diet, so i just feed regular worms. I need to get my gecko food tomorrow, so please let me know, thanks.

Nooo no no no lol. Bait for fishing is NOT the same quality food items your gecko needs. Fish bait can contain things that would harm your gecko severely.

When you say regular worms, you do mean meal worms right? Not earth worms.

Yea 7-11 also has meal worms, so I also feed my geckos these and have been for a long time. My boyfriend says he feeds his fish worms from the back yard and fish are very sensitive, so he says and that does hurt them. There are no chemicals on the worms from the back yard but no I have not feed my gecko those worms.

7-11, yes a gas station lol

Isnt 7-11 a gas station?

Yes it is and they have blood worms, meal worms and trout worms in the freezer section. I have fed the meal worms but wanted to know if the blood worms were ok to use. I read online some people feed their gecko's blood worms. However I did not see anything about trout worms.

... wait, your 7-11 has bait? That sucks!
Mine only has beer, jerky, cookies and nukeable breakfast sammiches!

(and in that vein of quality products, I wouldn't feed my leo *ANYTHING* from the local 7-11 :) Though I guess if they're selling mealworms those are probably safe)

I've never heard of these being feeders for geckos, especially Leopard Geckos. They're in the freezer section? Does that mean you feed your geckos frozen mealies or do they come back after you have them out for a little while?

My 7-11 doesn't even have a gas station attached to it, lol You have a very interesting 7-11 :)

I would say no as well...Typically frogs eat blood worms and thats the only thing I have ever heared of eating them as a staple diet

If it eats dirt its not going to offer much nutrition to your gecko.

I believe the ones in cups at a 7-11 are kept in and eat dirt.

They don't get there nuitrition from dirt. they get it from dead leaves, rotten fruit, and other organic matter. look it up.

7-11 does not feed them that sort of stuff though. And what youre mentioning is essentially compost... dirt. Regardless... they are not good feeders.

Worms

I forgot to mention the worms I get are in the fridge, not the freezer my mistake. And the worms come with wood chips like I get at the pet store. The meal worms, although there are other worms there at 7-11.
My question is don't these gecko's in the wild eat worms, that would be outside, well they eat insects in the wild and no pet store there! Not sure what they eat but does not come from a pet store. So this means all wild gecko's don't have any nutritional value. Now let's save all the wild gecko's, we all must go to the pet store, then go out to the wild and feed them. LOL

I called the pet stores.

I just talked to a guy at the pet store who owns gecko's himself and also works at the pet store. He said blood worms, trout worms are fine and won't hurt my gecko..However he suggest meal worms, but the other worms wont hurt my gecko at all. Also worms from outside are fine as long as no harmful chemicals are on the worms, which is not where I live. My boyfriend uses these same worms to feed his fish, so there is no poison, or anything bad.

I have talked with three people at pet stores, 2 own gecko's and they say 3-4 worms is plenty for a baby gecko 4 to 5 months old. I also read this in a book for gecko's. Well I have my answers now. :D

You can do whatever you like, but i still wouldnt recommend it. Pet stores are most often wrong on nearly all information they give. Juvi geckos can eat over 20 worms at a time... 3-4 would keep your gecko small and skinny.

so if you wanted to know everyones oppinion at the pet stores then why ask here... sometimes i dont get things... but thats ok...

i wouldnt personally feed my geckos blood worms or earth worms, or much out side of the meal, super worms and crickets... but thats just me... i have a freezer stocked up with frozen shrimp and blood worms but they are for the fish... just because they are safe for a fish doesnt make it safe for a gecko... i would think more harm than good would come from this... is it really worth it??? i mean ill eat a cheese burger... it doesnt really harm me, should i go cook my gecko one? maybe ill toss in some cat food or chinchilla food into there tanks for them... i mean... it doesnt harm the cat or the chins...

worms from out side... being fine.... i dont think so! wild caught anything is a high risk... perhaps you have herd of parasites? its the reason we BUY crickets not catch them... how do you know what that worm has if you have not followed it around its entire life... you dont... again im left to ask... why risk it?

why try something that you dunno the chances of it working, just to see, when you already KNOW what does work....

kind of like draining the MOTOR oil out of my car and putting VEGTABLE oil in its place... i mean i talked to a couple gear heads who say ehhh it should work or can work... lets do it!!!

i dont know... i guess i just dont see the point, but to each there own... good luck for your gecko... i guess you got your ansers... well what you wanted to hear anyways... enjoy

***dont take anything personal please *people do that alot with my opinions* ITS JUST MY OPINION!!! hate it or love it... its just my 2 pennies... wich were asked for... ***

"Soil is the naturally occurring, unconsolidated or loose covering on the earth's surface. Soil is made up of broken rock particles that have been altered by chemical and environmental conditions."

sorry to dwell on it but there you go.

And i woldn't try the blood worms. I'm no expert though.

I wouldn't, but that's just me. I have to ask, though, if you have access to feeders that are known to work just fine with leos, why not just use those? :main_huh:
