So I finally got some waxworms for Tiamat this holiday season (shh, don't tell her. It's a surprise! ;) ) And I was wondering if there's a better way to keep them. Mine come in a small plastic tub filled with wood shavings. I'm assuming there's food in there somewhere but can I feed them gutload or carrots or anything like I do the crickets, mealies, and supers?

I've read that you can keep them in the fridge in stasis so to speak but I've tried that and my fridge is too cold and I'm not allowed to change the temps (in-laws'es fridge). So what can I do to keep them good for a bit longer?

they won't eat if refrigerated. you can let the cup sit out with the lid off to get rid of condensation and then keep them at room temp. i hear they last longer unrefrigerated but i haven't tried it since i don't feed them as my gecko is a fatso.

I think

I think that you can put them into a small Ice Box and put some Ice in with them and reduce the outside temp to make them less active.

You do not want them to get as cold as a Frig. (At least that is what I think.)

I cannot look at my Waxie sheet at the moment so I am guessing.

Just leave them in the cup, and leave the lid on. They were living in the store like that just fine, they'll live at home too.

Waxworms dont eat the wood and if you want to make a medium to feed them it's very sticky. I only made their food to breed them, there is no real way to gutload waxworms easily

How long will they last then? Just in the cup at room temp?

Depends on how old they all ready are?

Wax worms can last for 5-7 weeks not refrigerated and from 3-4weeks in the Fridge. Keep the Moisture very Low.

They also do not eat at this stage in their life(Not much at least). They have shed their gut and are just waiting to become moths.

Gutload is only needed if you plan on breeding them and raising them up.

We keep ours in a tub( no lid) in the bathroom ( its cool but not cold in there). I feed ours a mix of baby cereal and honey. It is very goopy. I spoon it in the corners of the tub. I change it out about once a week because it dries up.
