Hey guys, I have a question...
I was looking at amazon.com and I say a tub of 10,000 freeze dried mealworms. It says they are preservative and additive free. And it also say 'for wild birds' but would it be ok to buy for my leopard gecko? The other has 2,500 worms. Read the details. because I find myself running out of food quickly and this would keep me set for months.
Let me know which one you would pick. Thanks!!!!

What do you guys think??? Here is the link:

OR there is this one:

I dont think feeding your geckos freeze dried mealworms is a smart move at all...
1. The nutrition is pretty much shot in these things, can't gutload a dead worm
2. Leopard Geckos enjoy LIVE prey because it moves, dead worms can't move
3. It even states for wild birds

Please don't cut corners if you are trying to breed geckos, thats not how it should be done

I never stated I was trying to breed. I am just trying to feed my gecko. Even though it states for wild birds, that doesnt change the fact thet they are mealworms. But thanks! I just thought I would ask.

Do you know any other website where I can get live meal worms in bulk?

Check this thread out maggie. I know it asks about superworms, not mealworms. But you could find out the average weight of a super compared to the weight of a mealie and do the math on how much to feed your geckos.

And I'm sorry if I'm going to sound rude here, but don't think just because you post a new thread doesn't mean that people here haven't seen the spectacle you've made on other threads in the past week. Your previous posts have been about setting up a breeding program for geckos you don't have yet.

Thanks!
And I know that I have posted other threads. And those threads are to prepare myself. I asked about morphs. So I hope people can get over it and not get caught up in me arguing with another forum user who was beating a dead horse. But thank you for answering my question!!!

When I fed meal worms, I fed 8-10 every other day to adults.

Thanks! I will probably feed them about 10 every day.
Would it be bad to use feeze dried even if I dusted them with calcium and gave them live wax worms once in a while?
I primarily want to feed them mealworms but I am going to also supplement the freeze dried with some live wax worms and calcium with D3.
Does that sound ok to you?

Even if they do eat them they are worthless because you can't gutload dead mealworms. There's no nutrition in them. But in reality, leopard geckos are not going to eat dead prey.

It'll just end up being a big waste of money, since very few (if any) species of reptiles will eat dead prey. If you want to save money, bulk order mealworms online from one of the many websites offering them, and then breed your own. It's really not difficult to do.

Don't you have a gecko that you said you've had for some time? What are you feeding him at the moment? If he is doing well so far, why change to freeze-dried garbage that your gecko might not eat?

I was feeding Eros (a 7 mos old leo) 15 meal worms at a time every other day, I switched him to supers and he eats 4. Logic would dictate a larger worm you would be feeding less hence cutting down on your food bill. There are plenty of sites that sell bugs in bulk. Look at the bug depot, mulberry farms, grubco, and there's a ton more if you do a search for meal worms or super worm threads.

I feed most of my juvie geckos 8 smallish mealworms a day and give my adults that much every other day. I definately recommend buying live mealworms and breeding them. Go check out some videos about breeding them and you'll see how wonderfully easy it is. I breed mine and have saved loads of money! But anyways, I doubt that your gecko will eat the dead mealies and, as others have said, you can't gutload a dead mealworm.

If you are going to buy bulk mealworms remember that if you get the larger sizes they will tend to pupate if you keep them room temp. However if you keep them in the fridge they will hibernate and you can then have more longer, just take them out 24hrs before you plan on feeding them to your geckos and gut load them.
