Did your gecko eat the first time you fed it? I'm just wondering because my gecko ate right away the first time I fed it and I just want to know other peoples' experiences.
As for new arrivals? Depends, I've had some that ate the very same day they arrived. Others it took a couple of days, one took a week, another went on a food strike for 3 weeks (turns out she was ovulating, she's eating now).
Some of mine ate the first time and some didn't. Funny thing I got 3 new ones in yesterday and the 2 youngest ate everything I gave them the first night and the oldest has not eaten yet. It just depends on the leo.
I got mine from a reptile show, and he had no problems eating, he wasn't fond of crickets at first, so stuck to mealies till he was ready. Now he'll eat both without any problems. He loves hunting for either. When I say that, I mean he'll go to the mealworm dish and do his little funny stance, I call it the Hunter Stance, and get all excited at mealtime! It's so funny to watch him eat!
Rin has never had that problem. She chowed down on those mealworms as if there was going to be a major food shortage and she had to pack as many in as possible XD I suppose it depends on the leo, pity she doesn't want mealworms anymore and refuses to eat them now....picky girl.
A lot of the time my animals eat the first time i feed them after i bring them home i wait 24 hours and then feed. As time went on in the hobby I had some shy animals that just needed time to settle in. Now I don't offer food right when I get them I wait a few days and then feed and it works every time. :main_thumbsup:
I didn't vote because I have different answers for all 3 of mine lol! I didn't see Toon eat until a couple weeks after I got her because I rarely saw her leave her hide; I knew she was eating though because she was pooping every night.
Hugzor started eating the second I put him in his tank after picking him up from the pet store.
I know Epic ate his first day as well because I counted his crickets and roaches. The next night when I fed him I saw him eating.
As far as new arrivals are concerned, it varies. We've had a couple that ate everything that got withing a 2ft radius of their face from day one. We've had others that took a week or so to get settled in and completely comfortable. We've even had one that went over a month before we could get her to eat.....
My leo hasn't touched the dish of mealies in his home, but he happily took a few mealies from chopsticks this morning. I only got him yesterday. I was so happy he ate so soon!
Mine didn't want any, but the first technical day, I got some tweezers and held the meal worms in front of her and when she got her attention away from my hand, then she ate. I was so worried she wouldn't and I was going off to school about half an hour after the fact so I wanted to make sure it was okay.
Consiedering rango was 2 weeks old when i got him, i was completley inexperinced and had no idea what i was doing, id say im pretty lucky . Ive been blessed with a pig for a gecko.
