This question is commonly asked and nobody truly has a definitive answer since every gecko is different. I figured this would clear up some confusions for those new to the Leopard Gecko world (and for myself).

Note: If you feed them a set amount, please post what that set amount is. Thanks!

I know this is the answer that you probably don want to hear. But it is different for each and every gecko. I have some geckos that I have to not feed as much as they will eat because they will get fat. I have some geckos who are healthy and eat twice as much. I honestly just go by what I know about each gecko

I feed every other day. Babies get 10 mealworms refreshed in their dish, adults get 5 large supers, juveniles get 5 large mealworms and 2 large supers. Some feedings everyone gets 10 crickets instead, occassionally they get silks as much as they'll eat. And recovering from breeding females get a newborn pinky and pheonix worms as much as they eat.

I thank you for those that have responded thus far. I definitely understand that it changes gecko to gecko. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't feeding an extremely to high or low amount. I tend to feed crickets until she gets tired of them (usually 3 to 4 mediums) and then 7-8 meal worms daily. Shes about 8 months old I would say and we haven't weighed her but she isn't as plump as the rest of yours lol.

I have phoenix worms coming in the mail so I can finally do away with meal worms for a good bit.

When I first got my guy he was eating 10 mealies a day and then he decided he didn't want mealies anymore. I switched to phoenix worms and I feed him 5-7 a day cause if I feed him to many he just regurgitates it. I feed him crickets too every once in a while and he'll eat 3-4 medium crickets at a time. As they get older their tastes change so I encourage you to feed them with a varied diet to keep them healthy and happy!

you dont have to go to fancy or get a double digit(which usually cost more) just a simple digital kitchen scale.:main_thumbsup:
I bought mine at macys for 50 and though you can get em at walmart cheaper its still affordable and it is very high quality and much more accurate than my old walmart scale.

Rango gets 2-3 suppers and a constant supply of mealies, they are in a bowl so he takes what he wants. I feed 5-6 days out of the week with the supers.

okay well heres the deal...

our leo will not eat more than 2 crickets at this point and thats with MUCH effort on our end chasing the cricket, getting it to stay still in front of her and thats IF she'll eat it.

mealworms are always a huge success with her but we always hear about needing to change diet, not feed too many mealworms because of impaction, not enough meat contained in it (not nutritious enough).

We ordered phoenix worms with many suggestions favoring them on the forums but with further research we've seen that they sometimes will poop a full phoenix worm, regurgitate them, or not eat them period (which has been the most common result)

my girlfriend is terrified to feed the leo a hornworm because of the horn on top and she works with them often in bio and says the horn is rather sharp...

silkworms require the special leaves and may be too big for her right now not to mention expensive little buggers.

waxworms and butterworms are too fatty and i can't feed them on a constant basis.

and finally roaches aren't okay with our landlord. she had issues with the last person raising them in their apartment and she was not pleased.

so basically, what is a staple food i can offer the gecko that can just put all of this at rest? I just want to be able to end my searching the internet constantly for a food that she WILL eat, and it be nutritious enough? if she would just be satisfied with crickets like she was the first several months we wouldnt be having this problem but here I am.

So guys... help me out. I ordered the necessary calcium without d3, multivitamins from repti-cal and of course already had the repashy plus. that being said, what can we feed her that will just end my stressful time here?

I feed everytime my gecko poos or random times in between( if she'll eat them). Hornworms are fine. Variety is the best so throw in whatever you can( if your gecko will eat them).

i guess my main question is this: can she be okay just eating mealworms, whatever crickets she'll eat and hopefully some phoenix worms without problems?

can mealworms be a staple assuming theyre being gutloaded(with 3/4 oatmeal 1/4 of that shaving crap) and properly dusted?

sam: you only feed yours supers and mealies? no issues i imagine? i keep being told crickets/roaches/ or some other kind of fully nutritious feeder is a must...

I would say you need a better gutload. Oatmeal and grains dont give them as much of a nutritional boost as fresh fruits and veggies, wich also have a good moisture content so the mealies stay hydrated wich also helps our leos. If your gonna go the mealie route, god big and gutload as heavy as you can.

Im not a nutrition expert yet but i have been told many times to avoid the giant mealies. I feed supers and mealie myself, along with the occasional crickets.
