I was thinking about putting him in the fridge first so he slowly shuts down and then putting him in the freezer (after several hours in the fridge) overnight to make sure that he's gone.

This is the last post on page 4. I never talked about putting him into the freezer instantly. I always wanted to put him in the fridge first and then freeze him after he was asleep after several hours. Also, for fish, I stick them into a cup and add an ice cube and then let it melt. I will do this over the course of an hour and after the fish is no longer responsive, I stick them in the freezer overnight. I say that I freeze my fish, but I don't mean it like that. I just don't feel like typin gout this explanation each and every time.

Secondly, yes, if you can't afford pets, maybe you shouldn't get them. Comparing the worth of a lizard vs. a dog is ridiculous - both animals should have equal worth.

I could afford the animals, that's why I got them. Crap happened and I had to take my dog to the vet. The test results came back positive and he has histiocytic mastocytoma and he will have to constantly get tumors removed from his organs. I am fighting for my animals, so do not mistake this as in I don't care for the leopard geckos. I do care about them and I'm trying my best. I'll have you know that both of them have gained almost a gram! They're doing well and making an amazing recovery. I'm not trying to compare the lives of the animals. It's just that I have a stronger attachment to my dog than the leopard geckos right now. It's only due to the length of time that I've had them - that's all.

Secondly, I don't think you should judge as harshly. I have a lot of crap going on in my life. Everything started falling apart after I got the leopard geckos. I'm juggling so many things and it can't just stop at my animals being sick, my fiancé is very sick as well. He might have ulcerative colitis, so that's just another thing that I'm stressed about since I'm trying to take care of him. Maybe I have too much on my plate but don't you dare accuse me of not caring about my animals. I came here for help, not to be judged about how I care for my animals.

I'm not trying to be rude or cause an outburst, I am trying to be civilized. I just thought that this needed to be said. I don't want it to seem like I need to defend myself, but I just want to shed a little insight on why I do what I do and why I think how I do.

I knew I couldn't just leave it there to starve and suffer. My boyfriend simply couldn't do it, so I knew it was up to me to end its suffering. So I did what needed to be done to prevent a slow and painful death for the poor snake. It felt awful and I don't want to have to do it again, but it was then I realized that sometimes you have to put your own feelings aside to help an animal that is suffering and won't survive. I always said I could never kill an animal because I love them so much, but my love for animals drove me to put myself aside and prevent a suffering animal from dying slowly. Nothing could have saved that snake, not even a vet.

I've actually done something similar when I was driving & passed a baby opossum that had been hit by a car. It was seizing & thrashing around on the asphalt, but definitely minutes away from death. I'm a huge animal lover, too, which is why it KILLS ME to see them suffer in any way. I don't even kill bugs! lol

I can tell you're feeling attacked, and I wanted to say that no one is trying to directly attack you. Euthanasia is always a really sensitive subject for everyone and hard to discuss. I'm glad your geckos are doing better, and I'm sorry about your current troubles. I understand quite well the struggle with money. I'm sorry if you felt like I was attacking you with my posts on euthanasia. I just wanted to put some information as well as my opinion out there. I don't think badly of you at all, and I don't think anyone on here does. Life happens.

People don't judge as harshly as you think they do on here. In fact, that's why I'm here. It's hard to find animal forums where people don't flame and judge, and this one is really good about that. Everyone understands that things happen and sometimes there isn't anything you can do. I saw this as an opportunity to educate people on humane culling procedures, and I'm sure others did too. Lots of people put their reptiles in the freezer, and we all want to prevent that.

RUBYsoho: Same here. No bug killing in my house. =)

You are indeed being rude, which prevents me from wanting to have any further discussion with you. You have misinterpreted everyone's responses to your situation, but are solely going off on ME. I'm sorry for your situation & certainly was not poorly judging you, but I will not continue a helpful conversation with someone who immaturely gets this irate & defensive when they are given advice. You said yourself that you came for advice, and that is what you were getting. No one is attacking you. If anything, everyone is trying to help you with your situation, not insult you.

I was hoping the previous post would calm things down a bit. Maybe everyone just needs to walk away for right now. It sounds like the geckos are doing better.

I didn't see your post before posting mine, lol. Thanks for your super objective post - it definitely explained things better than mine did. It was never my intention to come off in a rude way. All I wanted to do - as others have seemed to do - is shed light on freezing as a form of euthanasia, which as you said, is a very touchy subject. My post was meant to be educational, NOT cruel or judgmental in any way.

And I agree with you: this forum is great for quick help. If we all didn't love our geckos, we wouldn't be here!

:)

I didn't feel attacked by you. You're fine. :) I understand that things get stressful and it's hard. I do apologize for my harshness. I don't want you to feel offended by any means. Your links were all very informative.

No, am definitely not being sarcastic. I'm really glad to be directed toward actual papers that did scientific studies about a topic.
