Wet Hide Maintenance?

One thing I hardly ever see talked about is changing out the materials in a wet hide? I only care about coco fiber since that's what I'm using, but do people just leave it unless it has an issue?

Or should it be changed on a schedule?

Make sure it's fresh for a lay box to avoid bacteria on eggs?

What are people's thoughts on this?

I use moss in my wet hides don't know why but tried all the different substrates and the moss just seems to hold moisture just right and I put it in a strainer and clean it once every two weeks up to three times before replacing with fresh moss hope that helps.

I use coco fiber and change it about once a month. I will change it more often if I notice they've knocked most of it out, it has become contaminated, etc. It is cheap and a brick goes a long way, so I would rather change it too often than not often enough... Hygiene is important.
