Advice after vet visit

Ok so my little Leo hasn't eaten in a fair few weeks and has lost a fair bit of weight . She was 11g a week and half ago and is now down to 9 g. She had an antibiotic injection 3 days ago and we went back for a follow up today. Here's what they did

Changed her antibiotic to metronidazole and gave her a shot of that she has to have another in two weeks.

Gave her a shot of calcium gluconate.

Sent her home with critical formula.

So my questions the first antibiotic they gave her was a different one beginning with F can't remebr its full name to be given by injection every three days. They must be still giving her this as well because they want her back in 3 days .? And also needs to go back in two weeks for metronidazole again.

The critical care they gave her came with no scoop or syringe so I'm unsure how to mix it up . It says 1-3 parts water . So would a 2.5ml scoop of powder and 7.5mls of water be right ? And it should be *****istered 0.1 ml 4 times a day
Does that sound normal ?

Also the vet said she has what appears to be rotting food at the back of her throat and she has removed what she can ? ( She hasn't eaten in weeks other than a bit of slurry which she pooped out in the same state it went in ).
She said the rest will come out once we've syringe fed her critical care a few times.
I really not looking forward to syringe feeding we barely handle her with her being sick and she's quite nervous. But probably less so than
Me . Does the syringe go right in her mouth or just at the front she only need 0.1 ml ?? And also what should I bathe her in reptAid or avipro plus ?? I'm really confused about this ?


She also wants us to bag up any fecal (she hasn't pooped in weeks ) for a fecal check.

You can see if she will lick drops off the end of the syringe. That's the least stressful way. If she won't, you may have to actually put it in her mouth and do drop by drop. You don't want to go too quickly or you can risk fluid going into her lungs.

Flagyl is great stuff, glad to see a vet actually using it. I use it on animals at the pet store, but we use the oral dose. It kills two birds with one stone. It is an anti bacterial as well as an antiprotozoal. So if she has parasites or an infection it should help.

Sounds like your vet is covering all the bases. Feeding the critical care four times a day seems a bit difficult, but it will be good to do small bits often for a while until she picks up licking it. If she starts taking it more willingly, you might be able to do larger amounts, fewer times a day. Obviously talk to your vet about it, but as someone who works full time, I can see how that schedule might be difficult.

Also, you might ask about doing soaks for hydration. I know that is often recommended for dehydrated reptiles.

Yes we we are doing soaks once a day in dioralyte (uk equivalent) of pedialyte. Which seem to be doing some good . She is shedding today .. I've been dripping on her nose and yes it's hard when your working full time I've just been giving as much as she will tolerate at each feed probably twice a day she doesn't take much but it's better than nothing .

we went back to vets today with a poop sample and also she found she has an infected mouth maybe from a bite so she's now treating for that with baytrill and she has sent a swab off for testing . We have to go back in two days .

She has had a successful shed today and I think she has eaten it all she didn't take any critical care today just kept turni away and being stubborn . Could this be because she ate the shed ? She was really chilled out as well sleeping on my hand etc . image.jpg image.jpg

She went back to the vet they say she appears to be improving. She has pooped since the shed and they said it looks good even if a little dry. She is still having baths but doesn't take the critical care well. I've taken to adding it to her water. She seemed a lot more skittish tonight during her bath and attempts to feed her now sure if shes just associating us with vet visits/ baths etc and feelong stressed or if its a good sign that she has more energy to try to escape us .

Yeah, it's probably good if she's moving around more. :)

I wouldn't put critical care in her water unless the vet recommended it. Just try to be patient with the syringe feeding. If you put a dab on the tip of their mouth, you can usually get them to lick it off in annoyance after a few minutes. Then, you can try to drip more on their tongue as they are licking their mouth. It can take a while to do a feeding, but the less stressful you can make it, the better.

The vet did say putting it in water would be ok . Why would you not advise it ?

We were back for another antibiotic shot tonight and they do these behind the scenes and then give her back to us in her box . I then put that in a larger transport box for travel home so its darker and less stressful. However when I got her home her leg looked really funny sticking straight out.she ran straight into her moist hide and hasn't cone out since for me to check her. I usually give her a quiet night after the vets to calm down. I have rang them they said its probably hit a nerve if its no better to bring her back in tomorrow they will give her an emergency .appointment. I'm worried has anyone had this happen after an Injection ??

I usually don't like putting anything in water dishes because if the animal doesn't like whatever it is, it can prevent them from drinking. It should be all right if you're also doing other things to keep her hydrated though.
