I made sure to gutload my crickets and worms. I used spinach peas and carrots.
He wasn't very interested in eating them though he was curious and checked out his bowl.
I made him his supplement shake and also added a little of the calcium boost that was recommended by Neon. I feed it until he stops opening his mouth for it. I'm thinking it's easier for now to feed him like this so he doesn't use much energy going after the crickets.
He doesn't seem to like waxworms but in his next shake I'm gonna crush some
up and incorporate that also.

I read about and watched videos about MBD and I'm sure he has it. His little arms are very deformed. He is missing a lot of toes. :(

On the bright side he is a little squirt tonight. He's laying next to me on his towel on top of the heated blanket. He's under the covers again... but he is much more active!!! He wandered around quite a bit!

Tonight's photos: I think he gained a little weight already!

Glad you've had a little luck with him. A nutritious slurry will be really valuable for him. His jaw bones probably aren't strong enough to eat live bugs. He may need to be on a slurry for quite a while.

It's great that he liked the slurry, that makes things much easier for both of you.

I'd handle him, but wouldn't encourage a lot of running around. You want him to store everything he can as opposed to burning it off while exploring. It'll be a few months before he takes on a healthy weight.

Don't let the videos of MBD get you down. It's sad and unfortunate, but once he recovers it won't slow him down at all. My girl has most of her toes, but has leg deformities, especially with her front legs. She still climbs and runs after bugs like the best of them.

Hey Everyone!

Just a quick update on Shredder!
So far so good! We've been mixing the calcium with his slurry!
We feed him once a day. Do you think that is too much? He's only pooped once more and it was white. But a little bigger than last time.

Can anyone tell me where they gain weight first? He's definitely getting a little belly I just want to knownsure that's normal and I'm not over feeding. He's getting more energy. He doesn't run around too much but he does like to sit up and look around. He really does enjoy attention.. he definitely perks up whenever he hear my husband and really loves his company more than mine.

anyhow!
heres a few photos tonight!

The first photo in the album was a couple nights ago. It shows his belly a little more!

They will gain weight on the tail first.

If he isn't pooping, you should probably hold off on the feeding. Don't put more in if nothing is coming out. I know you mentioned he was on sand before you got him, so impaction is a factor here. I would give him a lukewarm soak (water should feel barely warm to you) for around 10 minutes each day until you see poop.

I found poops. He was hiding them! And the crickets were hiding there too... please excuse them.. it's clean now.

His poos are getting darker sort of... let me know if these are getting healthier. Remember all he's been getting is his slurry. And a little mushed worm in it.

As I was typing this out my husband hand fed him a cricket! It's his first cricket since I started posting here. (He ate one other one before I can to you all)
After he ate it though he did some head bobbing and kept opening his mouth.. like yawning.. is he okay? Is this normal or is he choking?!?

I don't see any poop there, only urates. Again, I think you should hold off on feeding him until you see poop. It's not good for more to go in if nothing is coming out. I'm worried that you see the belly getting bigger. It makes me think he might be impacted and everything you put in is just building up in there.

It's hard to say if the head bobbing and opening his mouth was choking. Maybe. He is still probably very week from having MBD. I would stick to the slurry for now. Solid food might be too much for him.

Hello!!!

Update on Shredder!

Hes doing quite well I think. He's slowly gaining weight. He has a healthy appetite I offer him food everyday but he likes to eat every other day. He's VERY alert now and he comes to the side of his tank everytime we go say hello.

We got the digital thermometer and he is usually between 78-80 degrees always. We don't use a light at all really. I give him 30 minutes of the UV Light once a day. His favorite spot is on the heated blanket in bed (my husband insists on him being in the bed almost every night. Spoiled gecko)

He is starting to get darker in color. He's no longer super pale. He's also staring to get spots on his face. It looks like his tail is getting thicker but it's very very hard to tell because it's gradual.

As as we know he will be deformed due to MBD. But so far he gets around good enough. We joke and say we should have named him GI JOE because he runs around on his elbows like a crawling action figure. Poor guy.

heres a picture of him tonight!

edit: not like sleeping in bed. Just visiting for about an hour.

I'm glad Shredder is doing well. It sounds like this little dude is going to have a nice comfortable life with you from here on out.

Does Shredder have an under tank heating pad? My girls have thermostat controlled pads on one side, set to 90 degrees with a hide placed over top. It's one of their favorite lounging areas.

Identical to mine :)

Any actual poops out of sweet little Shredder yet? I'm rooting for this little guy. He looks like such a sweetheart, and that adorable little face though! I'd like to see him get fat, happy and spoiled.

Not much yet. there are darker areas on the urates I think his body is absorbing everything..

He is super cute. I love when he eats. His eyes open wide and he attacks.

He doesn't really like his slurry anymore. I usually rip the big legs off the crickets and feed them to him. (Sorry crickets) I also give him wax worms and mealworms. I let him have a choice of all three. Wax worms are definitely his favorite.
