We have a new, quite young, very small gargoyle gecko...our first reptile. When we bought him about 2 weeks ago we were given bad information about housing, temperature, etc. Two nights ago we changed to a larger tank, heat lamp and thermometer. The temp is about 85 degrees and we're keeping it moist.

Yesterday he was his normal color, but this afternoon he seems to have turned an ashy grey. He also hasn't been eating much.

Can you give us any ideas of whether this could be shedding (do they do that when they're young also?) or if it sounds like he's sick?

Thanks!

Gargoyle Geckos are cousins of Crested Geckos... and yes, it sounds as if your gecko is about to shed. They turn ashy color about a day before they shed. My leopards ALWAYS stop eating right before shedding. Make sure you have a humid spot for him/her to hang out, as this will assist with the shedding process. He should be pretty hungry when he/she is done shedding. Good luck!
