30 mins ago we went to chain pet store(that shall remain nameless) to pick up some mealworms. We looked at the leos and there was the cutest lil juvi for only 19.99! It was in a crowded tank with two others and we decided why not we have an extra setup anyways why not give it a good home. We were told that it was just moved to reptile carpet but was previously kept on sand(yikes!). We tried to take a good look at the stomach to see if we could see anything and we had no luck. He was squirming and running so crazy that we could barely get him into the container. Once we got home we noticed that in the container he regurgitated what looked to be like a very very large cricket? Even though the crickets that were running around his tank were the very tiny ones, this looks to be a large cricket. We then put him into a glass to get a look at him. This is what we saw. There is a HUGE black section in his upper stomach. Is this impaction or maybe a liver disease? We know that sometimes their organs are visible but this seems too large. I only had my camera phone handy so sorry for the blurry pictures. Please help! What do you think it is?

This is what he/she looks like in general.. seems okay weight and pretty nice fat tail considering he was from a chain pet store. I heard sometimes these things play a factor on determining if they are impacted or not.. and as of the last hour we cannot get this lil one to eat.

Give the little thing some time. You've already gotten it to eat, so I'd say it is going well. A lot of times they won't eat if they have a stressfull day, or are getting use to their new surroundings. You may see the dark spot lighten up a bit in the next week or so as well. If it is eating it will probably start pooping regularly too.

Young geckos, especially albinos, are fairly transparent and it's easy to see their organs through their abdomens. What you are seeing is the gecko's liver, which looks a little enlarged.

thanks for the responses guys. Does anyone know more about what the spot could be? we guessed it is probably not impaction because of how high up on the abdomen, and i (adam) thought it was probably some sort of liver problem or internal bleeding perhaps from an old injury or being mishandled at the pet store.

Basically we are both just wondering if anyone has an idea as to weather it could be something life threatening or just maybe an old injury he/she can live with. We are pretty much stumped due to the location of the darkness since most of the pictures we have seen have the darkness lower in the belly.

ps. I am currently working on finding my digital camera for better photos and crossing my fingers hoping that he/she goes to the bathroom normal after eating last night.

Managed to take a couple decent pictures with the digi camera i held him/her up to the light and got some interesting pics with transparency hopefully these will help give people a better idea of what might be wrong.

usually you cant see organs just by looking unless there is something wrong..... that's what i am trying to figure out.

Actually on very young ones and the lighter morphs you can. I'll see if I can get some pics to share. You may be able to look through some of the hatchling threads to also see examples.

Here is a belly shot of a perfectly healthy hatchling we have. You can pretty much see the same dark mass that is in your pictures. She just has very light belly skin that is almost translucent. Hathlings are so feisty I was only able to get the one quick pic, but I think it gets the point across. Hope this helps.

wow thanks a lot for your help i guess it isn't anything out of the ordinary then, we were freaking out because we have only ever had adults and know that if anything like that developed on them that it usually means impaction or something else bad. THanks a lot for your help.

Could be caused just from stress of trying to acclimate, but to be on the safe side you can take a sample into the vet for a fecal.
