I can think of two things. First, they should check the temps. Low temps will make a gecko loose color and gray out. The surface on the hot side needs to be 90-94. Next, are they gutloading the mealworms? A diet of nothing but mealworms is fine, but they MUST be fed a quality gutload. They are little more than a poop-tube, and anything they eat is out of their system very quickly. If the gecko isn't getting enough vitamins, that will also make them loose color.

Gutload is just a fancy way of saying "well fed". The worms need to be fed a grain-based food ... you can make your own, or buy it pre-made. You can give the worms enough to eat in a 24 hour period (just enough to cover them), or you can keep them in several inches of food and they will bury themselves in it. In addition to that, they need a source of water. Carrots, apples, lettus, and potatos all work very well for this purpose. If you're keeping your worms in the fridge, you want to warm them up and gutload them for at least 24 hours before you feed them to your gecko.

In addition to the gutloading, it's also important to dust them with calcium and vitamins.
