Stuck Toe Sheds

Hello,

My leopard gecko has had some shed stuck on the very tips of a couple of her toes for a while now. One longer than the others. I watched a video today on how to try to get it off. She didn't like the idea of a bath too much but I tried to keep her in there for at least a minute or two. Then I got a qtip and tried rolling the sheds off her toes. Two or so of them came off the toes that haven't had the shed on them long, but the one that has had the shed on it longer than the others turned out to be red and looks like it lost some circulation. And i tried for about 5-10 mins to get it off but she eventually got tired of it and i didnt want to irritate the toe anymore. I was just wondering, is there anyway to keep that toe from getting infected and maybe it healing? Can i put any type of antiseptic on it like neosporin? It wasnt bleeding to bad but it looked a little raw and sore. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Before you put anything on the toe, just let her unstress and relax. If there is still stuck shed on her toes you may need to re-soak her and try to get it off with a q-tip after she relaxes for a few hours. Sometimes when my leo gets stuck shed on his toes, I moisten the q-tip to help get them off. Her toe that is red, if the stuck shed is off, just leave it be for a day and it should be back to normal. If it is not, then I would be worried, however, I would be more worried if her toe was black or if she was bleeding. If you are really really careful and have really steady hands, you can use tweezers to pull off some stuck shed on toes.

My first gecko was a pet store gecko and she had really back stuck shed on her toes when I brought her home. I soaked her in warm water (water should only go up to their elbows) for 5 minutes, then I used a moist q-tip to slowly take off some of the shed. When she had enough I put her back in her tank and worked on it more the next day. She had a few red toes (about 3) and I left them alone. The next day they were fine.

Oh sweet, thank you very much. Yea I just checked on her today after I got home from work and its looking a bit less red today. but theres still a tiny bit stuck on the tip that I'll try to get off in a few days. But yea it looks like its gotten the color back a bit. And it wasn't black thankfully lol I was worried that it'd get to that point and fall off due to the circulation being lost. :/ but I'm guessing I caught it in time for that not to happen. Ill try to resoak her again today or tomorrow and hopefully get the rest off. Thanks so much for your advice!
