Thinking of breeding a 6 year old (maybe 7) female SHTCTB - thoughts?

Hey everyone! Well, next season I want to breed, and have a few options. I plan to put a trio of Gprojects together, a Super Snow to an Eclipse, and hopefully a snake eye'd Eclipse to a SHTCTB.

The only issue is that the SHTCTB is 6-7 years old and I don't know if she can be bred. She's never bred before, but I've heard of 1st time females being bred up to age 8, even 9/10. Before going for it though, I'd love to get some opinions from people with more experience.

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

I've bred 6 year old leos with no problems. As long as she's healthy you should go for it. I've heard that leos each have a certain number of viable eggs. I have had geckos lay 20 viable eggs their first season and then completely tail off after that and have also had geckos lay well for 5 seasons.

Great to hear that you haven't had issues in similar situations, and that info about Leo's having a certain amount of eggs and that's it, is amazing! I mean, we'd wish that it would be an endless supply somehow but the fact that there appears to be a pre-set amount of babies a female can have in life, is just awesome/fascinating.

Thanks for all the info! I'm going to try breeding her next season :)

Thanks! I really hope to have some nice projects going on soon :D and I'll certainly keep you guys updated about all of them, that's for sure. I'm thinking my SHTCTB may end up as your retired breeder/spoiled old lady (xD) did. But if that's the case, I don't mind. However, it would be awesome to have a hatchling or 2 from her, so when she passes I may still have them to continue her memory.

The SHTCTB was the one that got me back into reptiles, so she holds a special place in my heart lol.

yeah, well my girl was nearly dead from neglect and had a stick tail when i got her (as a rescue) so i thinnk that may have had an impact on her breeding :) I wouldve loved to have a baby or two from her, but i cant bring myself to put her through all of that if i wont get any babies from it . She did not hold her weight well at all while breeding :( Since i doubt that your little girl went through anything as traumatic as my girl, you will probably have much better luck then i did :D I wish you the best of luck, and i hope to see some baby pictures in the following season! :D

Sorry to hear that she came to you in that state! But thankfully you were there to save her. My female wasn't in nearly the same state by the sounds of it, very early MBD, however it was stopped VERY early. Like, no floppy arms/hanging jaw/kinked toes ect ect. The worst that I can see is some very minor irregularities with her knee joints. Other than that, nothing.

Interesting that we both have (or, had) ambitions to get a baby from our favorite female. Must not be an isolated feeling lol. Anyways, I think I may have some luck with my SHTCTB but if it doesn't go well I wont push it.

And about those baby pics, I am going to have some VERY nice baby pics... I think ;) I'll PM you a link to the thread I'm creating once it's done. I plan to have at least 1 pic of all the geckos, including the 3 G's, as well as all of my snakes who will be breeders eventually (5 BCI, 1 BCO, 1 BRB).

Thanks for everything! and best of luck to you too :D
