Is it possible for a LG to be Gravid and Ovulating at the same time?

The title pretty much says it all.

I went ahead and matched up Cheech with Chong. She was 12 months and 63g at the time. Anyway, I saw them mate and she has slowly been gaining weight, but this last week she put on 9g. She's getting really close to her lay date, I believe. (Edit: Off of food, hanging out in the lay box, lazy)

I was looking at her belly and I'm not positive I can see eggs, because she has decent fat pads (not obese but has a good reserve) but I definitely saw an ovulation circle. Is it possible for her to be gravid and ovulating?

I'm positive she isn't impacted. She has been having bowel movements daily. She always goes as soon as the UVB light on her tank goes off (so I see her do it and then dispose of the paper towel). She isn't eating any more than usual. 10-12 gut loaded/dusted mealworms daily so her going from 3g/weekly to 9g this past week I thought was due to the egg development. (Edit: She did go off her food about 4 days ago)

Yes, they kind of have to be gravid and ovulating since they're producing eggs every 2 weeks or so. It's not unusual once my geckos get started for me to be able to see the eggs that are ready to drop and the pink ovulation circles of the next set of eggs that will fertilize and grow once the previous eggs are dropped.

Thanks. This breeding reptiles thing is new to me and I am used to mammals reproductive cycles, so these things throw me off. Ha

I have a hard time getting a good picture of her because I only have my iPhone and she is kind of squirmy. Right now she isn't thrilled about being held (especially since she is also in shed) because I imagine she is pretty uncomfortable.

Well, she is being all sorts of restless tonight... at least right now. The light just went off on their tank about an hour ago and she is climbing all over and exploring everywhere. Hoping that may be a sign that she is thinking about laying tonight or tomorrow. *fingers crossed*

She also ate a bit tonight. I picked up some waxworms to try to fatten up Sunny, and I also got some Supers for them to try. I only offered each gecko one Super to see if they'd eat it since they weren't really gut loaded. I just wanted to see if they liked them. It was interesting enough she broke her almost week long fast. She ate a few waxworms also. :)

I have one female in particular that lays every 10-12 days once she gets started. I caught a moment last year where she was a day or two prior to laying, had another fertile set dropping, and ovulatory follicles, all at the same time.

Certainly not uncommon, just commonly missed or people commonly misinterpreting what they're seeing :)

No eggs yet. [emoji20] I did see a few spots where she did a few practice digs so I am hoping it will be soon. The suspense is killing me. Haha

I'm starting to think she may be just like the gecko you described, Dillon. That is if she ever starts laying. [emoji4]

No eggs yet... Wait, I better go look before I say that. Haha Yep, still no eggs.

She actually looked and felt smaller to me this morning. But her fat pads and tail aren't losing any mass. She, also hasn't been interested in her lay box at all. She has been camped out there for the last ten days or so. Today she was hunting and eating like a pig, and sleeping in her hammock and hot hide. I am starting to think she may be absorbing her first clutch of eggs and putting her body's energies into the second clutch?

Here is an update of photos:

Yay! She laid eggs! They look great for her very first clutch ever; bright white and symmetrical. I candled them and saw a small red vein so I think they are definitely fertile. Yippee!

Congratulations! Now the countdown starts till the second clutch!

Aliza

Thanks! I've been really lucky with both girls who've laid. Neither have ever been gravid before and they just laid their first clutches of the season, and both clutches have appeared to be fertile in every way! [emoji3]

More importantly both girls have went right back onto their food and maintaining great health. Cheech ate 3 Superworms and 4 Mealworms the same day! [emoji3]

How long after they bred did she lay her eggs

About 6 weeks. From my understanding the first clutch takes 4-6 to develop and be laid after they mate. After that, the following clutches are usually laid every 2-4 weeks. But every Leo is different and that is just a general rule. :)

No need to worry yet. It could still be a few weeks. [emoji4] My girl Cheech was a hard one to tell she was gravid for sure. She has pretty thick fat pads in her abdomen so her eggs aren't easily visible if you look back through the thread. [emoji4]
