To sell or not to sell

I am a new breeder and currently have two healthy hatchlings that I can't seem to sell. I have since added new females to my collection and was wondering if you think I would sell the babies better if I bred for more or if I waited to sell what I have?

Agreed., also good idea to see what others are selling them for. In my area the prices have really dropped.

Hi Leah! Glad you decided to join GF! You may want to look in to all your options for selling hatchlings as well. For me with my girls having (so far) laid 17 eggs a reptile show is going to be best. Probably not a great idea with only 2, but the classifieds/Craigslists/web/Facebook is hard until you have a reputation. You might try networking with a breeder regular attender to see if you can sit at their table with them. Plus you'll get them some guidance. [emoji4]

So share a table with a breeder at a show? How do you recommend I find a breeder in my area? So far I'm on Craigslist and Facebook. And I post pictures on Instagram that get attention. I'm not too worried as they are still small but it would be nice to have homes to send them to in the future. Most geckos go for hundreds of dollars and I'm selling mine for $50 or less so I don't think price is the issue

How do you recommend finding someone to share a booth with?

I know that a lot of breeders sell at high prices, but not all of us do. Most of my geckos sell at $25-40 with the nicer ones at $50-100. Check in Reptiles Magazine, or on kingsnake.com for shows near you. Check the show websites for breeders, or, go to a show and talk to the breeders. I had someone who was just starting out help me at my table once and it went well. Some breeders will be happy to do this because they can have someone spell them at the table and they can actually look at the other stuff at the show.

Sorry, been a bit busy. That is how I started networking was by attending the two shows near me and talking to the different breeders there. Asking questions, getting advice and just getting to know them. Be friendly. You can even start some email/Facebook correspondence with the ones you meet.

Like Aliza said a lot of them will appreciate having some help when their tables get busy or they want to look around, get something to eat, etc. Plus you get the benefit of someone showing you the ropes. Win win. [emoji4]

I saw you are by Columbus, Ohio right? I would visit the All-Ohio Reptile Show and network with some breeders there. You can also check out the Cin City show just north of Cincinnati if you get a chance. Both have websites. I think the breeder prices will surprise you. I'm from Dayton so I will get a table at both when I'm ready. There are quite a few really experienced leopard gecko breeders at both shows, but also talk to the created breeders,, bearded dragons, etc. if they seem reputable then they will be able to give you could sales pointers. :)

You can PM about who is good at shows local to Columbus, Ohio.

Some tips after seeing your adds. Most will only buy geckos at that size if the are very cheep because you really don't know how the will look as adults until they are at least 20 grams. Also could use a better description like any hets or possibly hets. Unless you are 100% sure they are het free which is hard to come by so that would be a good to through in add if that's the case

I'll try that. I want to keep the prices at this point because I still have the space and everything to care for them but I'll keep the hets in mind
