I have no idea what happened. A normal baby was all she was but she had a pretty T like pattern in white on her black head. I'm not sure if she ever shed, and I'm pretty sure she didn't poop either. She never ate even though it was offered and I went in to feed her a few days ago (was quite a shock, took a break from thinking about it as I feel awful) and found her dead being munched on by the 2 mealworms that I left in a dish (said dish was knocked over) and looking like she always did while sleeping.. I'm quite discouraged and upset this happened and I just wish I could know what went wrong. She's kept like every other baby and they are all thriving.. Was he just not meant to thrive? :'(

PS- she was not sleeping for sure. She was dry stiff and clearly gone :'(

I'm sorry this happened to you. I lost my very first hatchlings last season (she escaped and was killed by my cat) and I was really upset, so I know how you feel. I don't have enough experience to give any input on why it happened, I just wanted to offer my sympathies.

Others have told me about failure to thrive cases, where hatchlings just refuse to eat and eventually die. Maybe it is something like that. I don't think anyone knows why those cases happen exactly.

It's so sad :( I'm sorry to hear about your first hatchling. That couldn't have been a nice sight. We just had a sneaky hatchling escape today and I'm not excited to go searching for her when my daughter goes to sleep tonight. We are also missing a crestie (Waldo.. What a perfect name) he's been missing for almost 2 months but we food a poop 8 feet up on the wall yesterday so. He's still alive and enjoying spiders.

Thank you stager for the kind words :) I was quite down as I'm a little too passionate for animals lol. It's very strongly tied to my heart strings and emotions!
