If they do breed she will hold the sperm until she ovulates, then she will fertilize the egg(s).

Just to add to this thread, below is a photo of an ovulating female. You can see the pink colored circular shape in the abdominal area? That's a sure sign of ovulation and the right time to introduce your female to a male. :)

Is the little white "glowing" circle in the middle of her stomach the key to telling if she is ovulating or not? If you could answer this I would really appreciate it, I am wanting to start checking my female to see if she is ovulating. Let me know! Thanks!

How often do they ovulate? If I have a female that is strictly for a pet, will she ovulate even if she is not introduced to a male?

My girl is quite the little fatty and I couldn't see her eggs for about two weeks after breeding. But this is my first clutch so I don't know if that's normal. I think she's about to lay in a few days since she started digging today.

One of my females laid her first clutch which looks fertile about 8 and a half days ago and when i checked yesterday it looked like she was gonna lay very soon but tonight i check her belly again and i can see 2 eggs in the side of her belly but i see a little white circle with a pink ring around it in the middle of her belly in between the 2 eggs which i don't think i saw yesterday. The circle is not as small as the ones i see in the ovulation pictures there it's just a bit bigger. What exactly does this mean?

I looked at my female just to see if I she was possibly ovulating, just to see what it looked like. And I see nothing. With my males their bellies are more translucent - I can see organs and such.
This females stomach shows nothing. Is this normal if nothings going on? If she ovulates, will I just be able to see it?

Hi there,

I was just wondering if it is possible for a female to become fertile after she has already begun egg production? She has only been with the male for about a week, but it already looks as though she has eggs (her tummy is wide and I think I can see two or three). Will these be infertile? This would also be her first clutch.
Thanks!

Has anyone ever taken a picture Of a pregnant gecko with it held up to a flashlight? If so, could you post pics please? I took pics of my Princess this way but I am not sure if she is or not. Thanks

This thread is SO helpful. I'm trying to start my first season of breeding, but it's really hard for my to tell if my girls are ovulating/gravid. They really hate being pulled up like that and being turned over and their stomach skin is too thick for me to tell... How do I get them used to that type of handling?

Try lifting them by the thicker part of the tail while the front feet still rest on the ground with the abdomen facing you. If they start tensing up or squirming to escape release her or she could lose her tail.
