Exo Terra Incubator "JUNK"

So this past january of 2012 i bought two exo terra incubators BRAND NEW thinking this was the next step up from hovabator.At first u have to measure ur temp inside them cause the gauge outside is not accurate but no big deal.Five months go by and i come home one day to find one of the incubators was not heating up and was at 75. I checked it out turned it off on u know just seeing if it would kick back on......but no.Then today i went out to the store for an hour come home to find my second incubator not heating once again turn it off on look it over but it will not work thankfully i still had a hovabator and put my eggs in it hope their ok.Not only did this happen to me but my friend had two as well and both his did the same thing to him as well.So in my opinion dont waste ur money.

Yep mine did the same exact thing. They can be modified to work as great incubators though if you want to go the home made route.

yeah i have heard they are crap. as much as i hate to suggest spending money, the reptipro has been great to me so far for the month i have has id the temp stays really great. THANK YOU ALIZA FOR SUGGESTING IT TO ME!!!!

To those of you who have been invested in these, all is not lost. I was recently given one that would cool but would
not heat. Well.... I tinker.
I tinkered with this circuit board under the back cover among other things, and for about $5.00 worth of parts from Mouser, I now have a funtioning incubator. It still does not track temp wise with the front panel but I have a Mercury thermometer that I work to and disregard the readout for anything but rough monitoring. If you want to discuss repairs, reply here, and maybeI can help. It's not hard. Requires soldering one 1 " piece of wire between two components, from a transistor to a resistor, bypassing a thin circuitboard trace that these have . Geo

No they wont help as I am not the original owner. I'm on my own. They sent me a letter saying that they don't repair units and the seller is at fault. No, their poorly built unit is at fault. If the owner had used it rather than me then the warranty would cover him but no help for me even though they know of the problems with these units. Pretty sad.

Dear Bob,
I do regret I can not replace the unit for you. There is a two year warranty from the original date of purchase. Without this proof of purchase I cannot replace the unit for you. Did you check with the seller to see if see if they offered any warranty?

Follow up email Since my email to you regarding the issue with my unit I have been searching online in the various reptile forums that I am a member of. It seems this is a very common issue with your incubators. Many people have started threads after experiencing similar problems. The most common response has been "throw it away and build one yourself". Many received replacement units that also failed. I must say that I am very disappointed to hear this. I am a Registered Veterinary Technician and have been in reptiles for almost 30 years. I find it hard to believe that a unit that is manufactured by you could be so easily outperformed by an Igloo cooler, heat mat and thermostat that can be assembled in my basement. I purchased it because I want to be confident that my eggs are being maintained in a manner that will ensure maximum hatch rate and healthy animals. I am being told however that a Tupperware container with moist paper towels placed on top of my refrigerator will work much better. This is VERY disappointing. It seems that this would have happened to the individual that sold it to me had I not purchased it from him thereby adopting his headache. Just thankful it was a trial run and no eggs were involved. Thanks for nothing.

Hi hrbay,

I know this post is quite old but I am hoping your still active. I would very much like to know about your tinker fix for the unit. I bought a used one for next to nothing, worked for about 2 months and tuckered out on my this morning. Hope your still around, I would appreciate some info on what transistor and resistor in particular you bridged.

If your still around, I have 3 of these things and none of them work properly. At close to $200 each that's a lot of money to throw away. If you could share your fix with me I'd really appreciate it!

Both of mine have the same issue, one is not only not heating it's fan on the inside kicks out and shuts the light off to. You know how to fix it ? I had Leopard Gecko eggs in mine , good thing I have back up incubators. Hopefully the eggs make it .
