Ive seen the program and I seem to remember that it is captive leo´s - They are filmed on the red sand and some "fake" surroundings like in the clip

you sure? The whole point of this documentary was to see reptiles in the wild. I doubt someone like Sir David Attenborough would use captive leos in his doco.
fraid they did :main_yes:
the leo's are definately captive bred not wild ~ Pauline ~ the owner of the geckos used used to run The Gecko Spot and she was real excited about it at the time :D

They describe how they did that clip here -> http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/lifeincoldblood/techniques.shtml

I had no idea, thanks for the link.

Amorous geckos
Leopard gecko courtship normally takes place at night, often out of sight under rocks, so to film it in full colour the animals would have to feel completely comfortable in front of a camera and under lights in order to perform such a sensitive ritual.

The cameraman teamed up with an experienced gecko keeper who has bred them for many years to film them in a carefully designed set, created in their very own gecko room, so they would feel completely at home. Here they were relaxed enough to display their most intimate natural behaviour for the camera, the male wagging his tail in excitement before tenderly nibbling at her flanks.

Ha, tenderly! When my male goes at it, he tears her apart & bites her all over. I'm surprised there isn't blood! You make it seem so gentle! I could do the same voiceover as that British chap but describe it as a more horrifying scene of rape rather than copulation. Ha. I should do that.

I hope there is NEVER any coverage of Leoprd Geckos on Animal Planet.... if there is they'll probably be trying to tell you how they are invasive maneaters and are going to ruin the country one state at a time :main_rolleyes: :main_thumbsdown:

Just watched a show on Animal Planet entitled "Lizards!" . It aired last night on animal planet here in canada at 11pm. I recorded it and just finished watching it. Was a good docu. but only had about a 30 second seg on leo's. Overall worth the watch!

There are quite a few documentaries that make fake scenes to film wild animals, especially the smaller guys. Can you imagine how hard it would be to be able to actually film a bug in the wild? So, they watch them in the wild and recreate the scene with caught bugs/lizards/etc in closed settings so you can get the nicer camera angles and such. I watched a show on it a long time ago, but wouldn't have a clue what it was called. One of those, "how we filmed it" bits after the documentary.

I just filmed a short documentary on my friends totois, the only problem. I have no clue about tortoises so it's just a compelation of video and music. The next film will be about what I know, it was still a fun project.
I really enjoy Anole alley though on YouTube
