can we feed leopard geckos wild caught bugs

i wouldnt do it because the bugs (such as wild crickets) may have been near pestisides or fertilizer and might kill your leopard gecko

No, it is not safe for several reasons. Chemicals, disease, parasites, basically its like this.

If you dont know where it came from, dont eat it. "In this case don't feed it to your Leo."

I agree. If we lived on a planet free of fertilizer and pesticides, it would be great to feed our geckos wild-caught insects. I would NOT risk it under the circumstances.

I say go for it unless you have a really expensive gecko... I would trust wild caught bugs more than I would trust bugs that were purchased from a chain pet store.

What about catching wild crickets, then breeding them for many generations? Using the babies say after 3 generations while making sure to move and clean after each gen.

I would say sure. What you need to make sure is that the species isn't itself dangerous, because you never know. And then pesticides don't live very long, and they certainly aren't passed down genetically, so you should be fine breeding them.

If you know you live in a fairly 'pristine' environment, where the bugs are unlikely to have been in contact with pesticides or fertilizers, then it is not a terrible option. However, certain insects are dangerous, such as fireflies, and will kill geckos.

I feed tomato hornworms out of my organic garden, as well as grasshoppers. But I don't mess with the may bugs, june bugs, true bugs, slugs, snails, spiders, and unknown caterpillars. And of course NO FIREFLIES.

I have also fed field sweepings to my dart frogs and pygmy cham. No problems there.

WOW! That's gotta be one of the worst things i have ever seen anybody post on a forum. EVER!
Based upon my assumption, chain pet store crickets and crickets from the wild are equally unhealthy for the most part.
Why would you not be cool with feeding an expensive lizard when you are cool with feeding a normal wild caught crickets??? That hints (and means) that you only care about a lizard unless it is a nice color morph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..................shame on you

The chain insects are still safer, IMO, just not very healthy yet.... bc they're hungry and w.o food themselves. So that's why your always hear to Gutload (feed your insects) always 1st before feeding to your leo's- for at laest 48 hrs. This them does make them healthy for your gecko. Gutloading can be very very simple. The benefits are amazing! We use Chicken feed as the main food and a fruit/veg for their H20 source (moist source) which we usually use baby carrots ready to go from the bag-very easy. But you can use others.
