Humidity trouble/ new tank

Hi everyone, I am new to geckos in general. I set up my tank yesterday with the suggested natural reptile bedding ( it claims to be the ultimate terrarium substrate) and put peat Moss on top. Today my tank was only at 55 humidity. Can I just dump water in to raise it up? I have three more days before my new crested geckos come home. The tank is a small tall so it is 18x18x24 the temp is at 70degrees and I am still trying to get it dialled in. Thank you for any advice or thoughts you might have. You'll have to mist the cage once or twice each day. For a crested gecko, you want to get humidity very high in the evening (usually by misting with a spray bottle) and then have it fall back into the 50s by the next night so the gecko isn't totally saturated all the time. They aren't like amphibians where you need the humidity high all the time.

I usually mist each night and then water the substrate once per week, but I also have live plants in mine, so you might not need to water as much. You don't want to substrate to get bone dry.

Yep, just mist it very well at night (enough to make water droplets on everything in case the gecko feels like licking them up), and it should slowly dry out over the course of a day.

If it seems to be really dry in the morning (can happen in a dry house), you can do a second misting in the morning, but you still want it to get down to 50-60% by the next night.

I mist my geckos once a day and let the tank dry out 100% between mistings. I check before I mist every night and do not mist if the tank is still damp or has any condensation. I've been doing it this way for about 2 years and my geckos are happy and fat enough to breed each summer. High humidity can cause shedding and respiratory issues which is why I don't recommend using any substrate that absorbs and holds water like moss or coco fiber unless you watch that is doesn't stay wet extremely carefully. I don't pay attention to any sort of humidity gauge I just look at the tank and check for water droplets or none. I also keep a moist hide in every gecko cage so if they need extra humidity in between mistings they can find it but are not trapped in an overly wet environment.
