Finally decided to get a crested gecko

My first post here in quite awhile but oh well. After wanting a crested gecko for awhile I've finally decided to get one! Yesterday I placed an order for a tank, supplies and food (all in one package), which also comes with an optional free gecko. My tank has been shipped out and should be here on Tuesday, then I can send an email to have my gecko shipped. I'm so excited!

I've been reading up on cresties for months and feel like I've gotten the essentials down but I still wonder how different a crestie will be compared to my leos? That's something you can't exactly read up on & have to experience for yourself so I can't wait until he/she is here. This will also be the first time I've had a gecko shipped to me, I hope all goes well.

Will try to post pictures up so this thread isn't just a bunch of boring text that has been posted a thousand times over. :main_laugh:

I just recently got my first crested also. The biggest difference so far between his care and my leo's is that the crestie requires less maintenance. He hasn't needed any additional heating, and mixing up the crested gecko diet only takes a minute compared to live feeders every day. It does take more time to clean his viv, though, since cresteds eliminate wherever they happen to be (not in a nice little corner like leopard geckos).

Excited to see pictures of your new little guy (or girl) when it arrives :)

That's one thing I think I'll enjoy, not having to worry as much about temperature as I do with my leos. My living room (where the tank will be going) stays a pretty stable temperature all year round unlike my room. Being able to rely on the CGD will be nice (though I do plan to feed crickets here and there) since even my mom could prepare that if I happen to be out. I think the crested gecko not going in a little corner like leos do will probably be a little annoying at first, haha. I have a fire skink who doesn't but he burrows and his waste tends to be mixed in the eco earth, not all over the walls.

Poor UPS, I've been stalking their site since I got the confirmation the tank had been shipped out. It arrived somewhere in Ohio at 3:37 am last night. XD

Congrats! I love Crested Geckos; lower maintenance care and their personality.

Make sure to share pictures when your crestie arrives. :)

Thanks, I'll certainly try to get pictures sometime soon after he or she arrives but will probably give it some space when it first arrives.

I'm sure they are addicting, unfortunately most reptiles seem to be. XD My first leo turned into two more to replace it. One more leo to have a female turned into buying one and adopting 3 (though only have 2 of the 3 now). Somewhere between buying Arella and adopting Lumi & Aurora, I got my fire skink Agni. "I'm done now, I have enough.... Ooh, look, a crestie!" >.>
I should be banned from sites/stores that sell reptiles, what happened to my supposedly decent self control?:main_laugh:

Haha, I always check on things I've ordered but usually only once a day. I've went to the UPS tracking site so many times today and then remembered its a Saturday so there's not likely to be any changes. XD Seeing as I only placed my order on Thursday and the tank is expected to get here Tuesday, that's pretty quick, but it still feels like the days are just dragging on.

Funny thing is, I had also ordered some shoes that day. Watch those get here first, I'm going to go running to the door expecting the tank and be like, "Oh, shoes. That's nice too I suppose."

Sounds like you were on Pangea. ;)

That's a great package, and I would have ordered it if not for the cage being an all-screen one (I'm pretty sure).

Yeah, let me know.

In the pic it doesn't look like a screen/mesh cage, but in a herp store i saw one with the exact frame and measurements that was all screen. Not sure about same brand though. I just assumed it was.

If it's only mesh at the top, I may have to pick one up. :)

Actually went to look at the ones on Pangea after posting that, it has acrylic sides and a screen top:

"Ideal for day geckos, climbing frogs, and other climbing pets that prefer a high-humidity environment. Acrylic sides and a PVC base pan retain moisture and humidity without leaking. An escape-proof mesh top keeps pets secure. Easily route cords for pumps, lights and accessories through built-in cable port."

Assuming its the same one in the package deal, which I'm pretty sure it is.

i got my gecko and cage form pangea it is 3 full sides or acrylic the top is screen then the front is about a 50 50 screen and acrylic. It is a great set up. I got a cork board back and a cork log to go with the package and the terratium looks like a little mini forest. I know your not posta put the little guys in a big place but i did the other day when i was cleanign out his small cage and he didnt want to come out. I make sure he eats everyday. I hand feed him a little bit and I make sure i check were the line is on his food to see if he eats at night. Have not had a problem yet with him not eating at least half of his dish.

Well I'm still waiting for my things to arrive. Every time I hear something that sounds like a UPS truck I go to look out the window XD It's been out for delivery since about 4:30 this morning so it shouldn't be too much longer, but who knows. Haha, I'm so impatient.

I have a smaller cage ready but I'm not sure which one I'm going to put the gecko in for now. Either way I will for sure be keeping an eye on how much it eats.

Yea I had mine in the small cage for a while then I put him into the new big cage. Then I used the small one for feeding crickets. I gave it 3 days to feed the crickets and the crested hunting a cricket is a super funny thing to watch. There a little clumsy at the age ur getting urs

I plan on feeding crickets sometimes but really like that I can feed the CGD since I absolutely hate crickets. If only my leos and skink didn't love them... Haha. So I might just use CGD for a little while, so I can give him time to adjust. Who knows though, my girl Arella ate for me the first day I brought here home. I'll figure it soon enough, just like I did with my leos. :)

Well I got the tank & all the stuff that came with it finally. By the time I sent the email confirming I had the tank, it was too late to ship my gecko. I would have it shipped here to arrive Thursday but I have a doctors appointment at 2:30 pm and wouldn't want to risk the UPS guy showing up late and me not being there. My gecko will be shipped Monday to arrive Tuesday. Its nice, I suppose, because I have a week to get things set up properly but bawww, I want my gecko now! :main_laugh:

The tank has only two sections of screen, by the way. The top of the tank and the very bottom part underneath the door.

The vine that came with it, this one, does anyone who uses these have any suggestions of how to keep it in place? I've got it wrapped around the wood but I wish there were some way to attach it to the wall of the tank. I think suction cups would work but I need to find some that I could use with it.
