I love looking at photos showing the same geckos fired & unfired, what a stunning difference. Here are 2 sub-adults who will be ready to breed next year, they are clutchmates.

Dmitri fired

and 80% unfired

Great pics and great Gargs! Congrats!

By the way Andi, what do you think makes them fired/unfired? My impression is that during the day mine are mostly unfired (probably also when thay are in "bad moods"?).

Mine fire & unfire to blend with their background. If they are in the open or in a light decor area of their enclosure they fire-down & if the go to a darker area of their enclosure they fire-up. I have never noticed mine fire or unfire due to stress or mating, only to blend with their environment.

at just a couple months old, her belly is already RED, can't imagine how dark she'll get once she start developing her 'red base coloring'.

Is your display picture grama or grandpa?

Like i said earlier, I love the reds. Personally, I am anticipating on seeing a white and red garg. Your male is allmost looking to be like this but the laterals are more brownie/grey/tan. Have you produced a White and red before Andi?

My avatar photo is actually the older sister to all 3 girls posted in this thread.

I haven't produced any white & red yet, but my male does fire-down nicely

They are gorgeous! :main_thumbsup: :main_yes:

Mine fire up and down in the same environment, so I'm not sure about the blending in with the environment. Do you think they do mimesis or mimicry? I'm not sure about "moods," either... why should they be in a good or bad mood when they're in the same environment all the time? I don't take mine out. I've seen them both dark and light in the morning and in the evening, and I don't have enough data to suggest it depends on the time of day. Maybe if all owners would lead diaries about the up- and down-firing, we would find a trend or pattern ;)

I've noticed my gargoyle unfiring way down if the humidity stays too low for too long. I've always taken it as a bad sign if it's fired down. I'm curious to know if I'm wrong though. They're so new to the pet trade it's tough to find reliable info on them.
