Plants in viv?

Hi all,
I'm new here, so apologies if this has already been covered.

Recently i have purchased a chinese cave gecko.
He is still a bit shy but seems to be eating and doing well. (as well as being super cute).
He is about 14 weeks old at the moment.

I was thinking of putting some live plants in the viv to help make a more natural humidity.

Is it ok to do this? And if so, what plants would people recommend i use?

I used to keep a veiled chameleon and would put hibiscus in the tank. Though these are maybe too big for the geckos viv, and were partly used as a food source for the chameleon.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to GF. I don't have cave geckos, but I have a lot of planted tanks for my day geckos, Rhacs and fat tail geckos. Plants should be no problem as long as you find types that will grow well under the tank conditions. I've had best luck with pothos which will grow anywhere. Some people put a potted plant into the cage. I prefer to actually plant the tank. This involves a layer of hydroton expanded clay balls, vinyl mesh and coco fiber. Google to find out more.

Hi Aliza. Thanks for the advice. The variegated leafed pot his looks pretty good. I will look to buy one. Maybe just in a pot first to see how it goes. Your set up sounds great. I am using orchid bark as substrate, so was wondering about putting orchids in there. He has started climbing, so something tall for him to play on would make things interesting
