Worried about Gecko

My gecko has kinda worried me from day one. Likes to hide alot. Zooms back in its hide when I enter the room. Falls asleep infront of a dish of mealworms. Its just odd. I ordered some heat cable to increase the temp of its warm spot, which hasnt arrived yet and have even gone so far as ordering 200 crickets to see if that entices it to eat more.

Its lethargic unless it needs to run and so far has only eaten from stats or if the mealworm is pushed against its nose or dropped dead in front of it. It will not hunt worth a sh*t.

Cage is 75. warm spot 82- 85, plenty of water, appropriate hides, calcium without d3 dish. etc. solid black stool..healthy I imagine.

Can you bump up his warm side to around 90F? That might help. Maybe giving him warm baths for 15 minutes twice a week might do some help as well. It can't really hurt, so why not? My geckos are having the same problem and I was wondering about getting some crickets. I feel weird about ordering in bulk and them not eating the crickets, seeing as how I'd have no where to put them long term. Let us know how it goes with the crickets!

Resolution

I am in total agreement with the boost in temp in the "hot spot". I read the sticky, wasn't really impressed. Its stool has white in it for sure. I caught a 1+" cricket tore its limbs off and let it loose. He jumped it.

I guess I got worked up for nothing. Then again. What happens when the crickets get boring? These creatures are quite high maintnence when it comes to diet IMO.

Thats why you need veriety in the diet, to keep things interesting :) It doesnt have to be a new food every day, but just new bugs thrown in for occasional veriety. I feed mealworms as a staple, but I throw in dubias, silkworms, calci-worms (phoenix worms), hornworms, and whatever else my pet store gets in occasionally. But all of these can easily be ordered in small quantities online.

(And you can always sell the mealworms here in the classifieds, CL, or any other site :) )

Awesome! Well, best of luck with the cricket/mealworm situation. I have turtles and my neighbor has a pekin duck that I can give my mealworms and darkling beetles to if it ever came down to it. I bought 500 mealworms and just a month later (feeding my leos, crestie, and one turtle as a treat) I have maybe 50 beetles with about 2-3 dozen pupae and another 3-4 dozen mealworms. They ate surprisingly a lot! Maybe you can keep the mealworms in the fridge and feed them as treats over time. Or, like Dinosaur! said, try to sell them to someone on here. Since I'm running low on mealworms, I would be fine purchasing them from you.
