Digital Thermometer probe placement?

I find it hard to have an accurate reading on my probe when placed on reptile carpet...

Do I use tape to tape it down or just leave it floating a little as it is??

I'd also love some pictures of where you guys place your probes so that way I know

Welcome to GF! I try to anchor mine under the warm hide so I get a good idea how hot it is in there with the heat trapped by the hide.
